While it wasn’t a stylistic move appreciated by the purists, Deafheaven’s stark move with Infinite Granite away from the blackgaze genre that they popularized went down sufficiently positively within the wider music scene that there was no urgency for them to return to their former sound. Yet, with the very next album, they release perhaps the heaviest, most intense record of their career, and make clear to both themselves and listeners that there was unfinished business to attend to.

I genuinely love how much elitists hate this band, it makes me laugh so much. Those two who just did the BangerTV viewer albums of the year just shit on this album so much to the point where they just act like boomers who can't accept changes in music. This album was a great return to form for this group while adding the shoegaze elements from their last album which had mixed reviews. I get the lyrical content could be weird but I'm not mad about it.

I'm sure boundaries of neither their own discography nor a particular genre of music even matter here. Without them in the picture, this album is a standalone piece of fine art. It's just that simple. While it is metal, it is something bigger, too.

Congrats to these guys. They’re a lock in for most overrated album of 2025.

Most controversial/polarizing, maybe. Which is, too, both fine and kinda weird

It has an average score of 8.2. How is it overrated? Just because some people (me included) think that this is AOTY doesn´t make it overrated.

I think the band accomplished what they set out to do with this album; the music complements the concept, the songwriting is cohesive, the production is perfect and the performance of each band member is impeccable. The album is also not just regurgitated Blackgaze; it does have quite a bit of "out-there" moments. How, after all those years, Deafheaven manages to stay polarizing escapes me tbh.

BangerTV used to be a cool channel. Now most of the time they're just screwing around, which completetly undermines the way I see them now. The last straw was Blayne shitting on the new Paradise Lost album - he didn't really review the music on that album, he just whined about what he wanted to hear, but hadn't. This is not rewieving, this is puerile, asinine bullshit.

Some of their new presenters are shite as well. Chris Thrash is so annoying. What happened to Dekay?

It used to be semi-professional when all the reviews and genre debates were shot in the banger hanger, whereas it all seems to be amateurishly shot in their basements now.

I think someone has to be really biased to not appreciate this album. It's not my cup of tea, but for the style, it's top stuff. My main issue is the vocals; for me, they just make the songs unlistenable, even though I absolutely love the instrumental parts. All that said, I totally understand why so many people like it, and why it is on so many people's top lists.

The BangerTV guys shitting on it was actually embarassing for them. I was kinda disappointed, because I quite like Blayne.

I find non metal parts more interesting than the metal ones and I'm not sure that I like the vocals.
