Fans of the most romantic feelings, run away as fast as you can ! Carnal Lust is in the place, and they don't joke... In fact it is all the contrary. Carnal Lust massacres the listener with its brutal death metal, scattered with lots of killer riffs and sepulchral vocals. That is to say that time is not really for subtlety.
Whore of Violence is a real concentrate of power and energy. As this band is relatively young - this is their first full-length album- the influences are sometimes more or less obvious. The less we can say is that this French trio has been raised in the extreme side of the metal spectrum. Here and there, you can fell the influence of Soul Of A New Machine of Fear Factory [the vocals on 'Infectious Mind'], some echoes of the Swedish or American death wave [the break on 'Messiah', 'The last soldier' that sounds like The Crown, the riffs a la At The Gates on 'Human Die' and 'Hard Drinker'] or, in a riff, a break or a solo, appears the ghost of thrash ['Scared', 'Outlaw']. Nevertheless, Carnal Lust is not a pale copy of the leaders of these genres, for these influences have been assimilated and released with Carnal Lust's stamp.
This said, their most outstanding influence, that was certainly their lullaby when they were younger, is the most brutal grindcore. The album starts with a rhythm section on the verge of grind on 'Psychotic Dementia', and then, almost on every song, you can recognize the typical accelerations of this style. These accelerations are surprising because they seem uncontrollable. But the band never trespasses the thin line between grind and death -except on the closing track 'Grind Porc', a grind delirium- so the album is admirable for its organization and its density. Furthermore the production is excellent [something rare in this style], and the songs are immediately catchy and different from each other, so Whore Of Violence is never boring or linear.
For a first album, this is a masterstroke. Carnal Lust has to be the leader of brutal death metal in France, and deserves international recognition. People worldwide, let yourself be cut into pieces...
