Thanatos is one of the oldest [if it's not the oldest] Death Metal band from the Nederland. "Undead.Unholy.Divine" their new release should be [it's not me but the band which says it] the heaviest album of their long career. The style of this band is simple, they play a very strong and heavy Death/Thrash Metal however melodic [particularly for the solo] with strong and hard lyrics against all the form of religions, also the band said before the recording sessions, that this album will be against Islam too? something new for Metal.
If you like good Death Metal or Thrash Metal this album should be in your "I must buy" list. This is maybe not very new and original, but damn this is at least really powerful and very well done. With good means of production and then with a nice sound, "Undead.Unholy.Divine" is this kind of album that you could like if you are a fan of Death Metal and even Thrash. Plus look the cover, this is a great one, good work?
Fast tempo, with powerful drums, very fast guitars riffs and a real brutal voice are the ingredients that the band uses to do its music. But there is also some really good tortured guitars solo which remind me the ones that you can find in Thrash Metal and here again it's well done. And well, in my opinion this is a Death/Thrash Metal of good quality, and the reason must come by the fact that all the musicians played or play in different well know bands like Gorefest or Melechesh [we can even note that Ashmedi of Melechesh does some guest vocals in this album].
At the end how is it really? Well one thing is sure there is not a lot of originality and renewing in this album, but we already know that we don't have originality on each albums of Death Metal, but this album is certainly one of the best of the band, and this new line-up must help.
For the lyrics, well this is Death Metal, then anger and all that are in it and as I said before this clearly anti-religious. The band did some declarations about the fact that this album will be against all the religions and even Islam. At then end yes this is against all the religions yes, but for the Islam part, well there is nothing really strong [just maybe two sentences]?
This album is a good one, not the best of the year in the category but this is honest and if you want to know this band from Holland [which plays Death Metal since 1984?] I think that "Undead.Unholy.Divine" could be a good start. For the ones who don't know them and who like this kind of music no doubt that you could try Thanatos through this album, you could have some good surprises.
