Speed Thrash Metal !!! I could be the word to sum up Cessation Of Life, a band from California, USA. Because, for sure, if you like Thrash metal no doubt that you will like their last album, "Kill You Again", 38 mins of pure excellent "high velocity speed metal". "Kill You Again" was released in 2002 [the band will be back soon with a new album], but I think that this review could be a good introduction to the music of the combo. Then let see through this album how sounds the music of Cessation Of Life?
Musically, Cessation Of Life is classic for some parts but also very impressive for some others points. In fact that's easy to say that they play a classic Thrash metal with all that you can [and must] find in it, aggressive but melodic guitars riffs, great guitars solo [in the pure Thrash metal mode, very disturbed etc?], good lyrics, and of course a frenetic tempo. But with Cessation Of Life you also have some interesting points. First, the majority of the songs are very fast, [I don't say quick] and it's, in my opinion, very good to have a lot of energy in a song, you certainly understand what I mean. I must add too, for that point that a lot of time we are more than near of Death Metal. That's good in my opinion, because it gives something more to the music of the band, a bit of violence, that's really good.
Also, you will see that all the musicians of the bands are really good. Chris the singer has a really good voice, Ron is a good drummer [have a look on the tempo and you could understand], Travis can plays great solo in addition of the excellent riffs of the songs, and Justin who plays the bass is really impressive. He gives a real interest to the music of the band which is really original because of his numerous technical lines of bass. That's not really common to see a bass also present in Thrash Metal and well I like it really.
The songs of the album aren't a real revolution in the style but however there is some really good ones like "Forgotten" for example, and the general level of this release is more than good. In fact we don't have maybe the most original album of the decade, but it's more than well done and, and if you want my opinion I would like to listen to their next album after that I listened this one?
Plus, for an auto-production, the production is really good, we have a lot of work in it and the band deserves many applauses for the excellent mixing and recording work. This is just very promising for the following?
Two years after its release date, "Kill You Again" is always an excellent album. If you like Thrash metal, I invite you to listen to this CD and the music of this band which deserves to be know. On that point I don't have any doubts, we will hear about Cessation Of Life soon [maybe the new album could help for that]. Now, I'm just waiting to listen to their upcoming release !!!
