Just in time before Christmas, the Seattle death metal masters Drawn and Quartered are back with their new album, more brutal and aggressive than ever before!

Return of the Black Death provides us with 39:40 minutes of brutal death metal. Here is no place for sissies and no room for sensitive little teenagers. Killer riffs, packs full of blast beats and deep grunts are what this album has to offer.

After listening to this album for maybe 8-10 times now, I must say that I feel like I discover new things every time I listen to the album. It is like there are some hidden melodic passages lying underneath all the hate filled songs.

The melodic passages of this album also reminds me a little bit of Nile, very mystic sounding but brutal and gruesome at the same time. And that is one of the strongest aspects of this album, although it is very brutal and aggressive, it is not as "dry" and boring as most other new death metal albums. Why? Because it also incorporates a lot of various melodies and solos and constantly thinks of new ideas to avoid the songs from sounding repetitive and monotonous. Some songs also contains slower passages that avoids them from following the same tempo all the time throughout the record, and this kind of variety that most new death metal bands nowadays are lacking, is something that I think Drawn and Quartered have managed pretty good on this album.

To sum it all up: This album is the ultimate gore field where blood is all over the place, people are stamped to death, lungs are attached to the walls and intestines are flying around in the air.
