BEST. ALBUM. EVER.

The opener, "Papercut", is frantic and awesome; it's probably my favorite song ever. It also has a really good, almost seamless, transition into "One Step Closer", which fun fact, was actually a song the band wrote about their producer because they stayed up working tirelessly on this record. That song has a great guitar riff and an angry vibe, and I love that kind of stuff.

Mike Shinoda displays his rapping competence on "Points Of Authority", while "Crawling" is a powerful anthem that is just amazing all around, although the best element of the song is Chester's singing; his performance on that song gave me goosebumps. When it comes to deep cuts, or less prominent songs, on Hybrid Theory, "Runaway" and "By Myself" are among the best, but they tend to get overshadowed due to being immediately followed by one of the most iconic Linkin Park songs ever, "In The End". Most of the time, a band's best song usually won't be their most popular or famous song, but with "In The End", it is a serious contender for Linkin Park's best song. It's just edged out of the top spot by "Papercut" and "Crawling", which themselves still are some the most famous tracks from the band.

"A Place For My Head" follows behind "In The End", and it's a very good song; however, it took me more listens before I was won over by "Forgotten". I revisited it recently, and I truly forgot how sneakily good it is, no crappy pun intended. It's not incredible or life-changing, but you actually do often forget that "Forgotten" is a pretty good song until you listen to it again. After a short filler track, we reach a song that is not very well-known or recognizable, even for an OG hardcore Linkin Park fan (I'm not an OG, but I am a hardcore fan). But holy cow, this song, "Pushing Me Away", is just incredible: one of my top 10 favorite Linkin Park songs, and probably one of my top 20 favorite songs in general. After that, if you're listening to the deluxe edition, you'll hear some bonus tracks, which are pretty good. The best bonus track is "My December", because it has a very calm and relaxing feel, and prominently features Chester's talented singing and vocal ability, which offers a nice change in pace from the faster rap-driven songs earlier in the album.

Overall, best album of all time and for all time to come, in my opinion. R.I.P. Chester Bennington.

For better or worse, Hybrid Theory is probably the defining album of the 21st century thus far. Storming out of the gate and creating an album that would be the blueprint for scores of bands that followed in their wake, Linkin Park was like a meteor hitting the music scene in 2000. Some twenty years later the album still resonates across the musical landscape of metal, and regardless of feelings towards the album, you can't deny its success.
