And now for a lesson in rhythm.... m m m management
The first album I ever bought that contained any metal... still give in a spin now and then for old time's sake.
RIP Chester.

Junior high times. Haven't listened to this since then, but it still sounds pretty fresh, surprisingly enough!

I never gave this its chance in its time, it's a great album, even though the lyrics don't do much for me.

I was never a fan of Linkin Park, nor even this album which was considered there best. I remember when they were hugely popular, and I had this album, and pretended to like it, so I could follow the crowd, but back then I was immature and only listened to music that everyone else listened to instead if following my own tastes.
I can understand why people liked LP, I just didn't, I was never one for the Nu metal scene, it just never clicked with me, same with Slipknot, Korn and Limp Bizkit, at the same time old school bands like, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were still releasing material, and I much prefered them, which I kept quiet about because they were considered uncool, in my youth.

This album is the audio embodiment of the 2000s. It's cool to hate them, because they're popular and mainstream, but the impact they had was meteoric (pun intended)
Back then, this was a very unique sound to the mainstream pop kids listening to clean, wholesome singers like Britney Spears, Christina Augilera, JT, JLo. To sing about angst means you're a loser, not like the cool kids, but they somehow made it work.
I remember after Linkin Park came charging out, everyone was waiting for the next big nuMetal band to come out, but none came out, and past Meteora, there were no good albums they released, so they were truly unique in their day even in the mainstream.
The album by itself is really good, no fillers, all songs are really solid, with a handful of outstanding ones. Chester's scream is one of a kind.

Korn and Limp Bizkit had number 1 hits on TRL years before this album came out, so the idea that Linkin Park were somehow the first nu metal band to enter the pop charts is completely untrue.

There was bands before Korn, LB and LP as well doing it, but who cares? Might not be revolutionary but this album is fucking fire and probably one of the best example of Nu, of course RATM aside. Not a single bad track, incredible delivery, amazing combination of the 2 vocal styles and also great production. Classic stuff.

Linkin Park are very much a “hits only” band comparison to the more solid body of work of bands like Korn or Slipknot.
Although I was one of those lil monkeys that preferred to listen to Britney Spears and the like. Even after I got into Nu metal, I never thought Linkin Park was any good save a few songs.
