It's been a while since I last wrote a review. I've been listening and listening to other albums from various genres. But how unexpected it is that I ultimately review an album from a band that was at the height of glam in the 80s, dominated, so to speak, by Mötley Crüe and the aforementioned Poison.
To start... I have this album on cassette and I bought it a few months ago. And how? Well, in the store I frequent to pay my installments for the albums I want (they leave me poor, to be honest), I saw this album... but I also saw the debut album better known as: "the one with the ugly cover", or just called Look What The Cat Dragged In. My first impression of Poison was: "Damn, the cover is horrible... but the songs are good". I also listened to their second album; I open it and say... Ahhh, the one with the ballad and that's it. Open Up And Say... Ahh! I don't enjoy; the ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" is the one that saves it.
Not to stray further, that night I remember I wanted to get the one with the "ugly cover", but I saw Flesh & Blood and took a chance, since the cassette was used and cheaper. I took it, and when I left the store I put it in my Walkman. Well, stupid me, I put on side B first, and wondered: Is this Poison? The songs are good.
When I realized my foolishness, I listened to it properly, and it was a beautiful experience. An early 90s album that still kept glam alive until the grunge era fully arrived. This Poison album has become my favorite from that time. I also can't listen to it on my cell phone because the cassette gave it that beautiful feeling that made me love this album; those who have this album might understand. I only lent this cassette to two people, who each liked it too; I'd say this is their best work. I didn't previously know the song "Life Goes On", and the first time I heard it, I was mesmerized by the rhythm and the beautiful lyrics. Although I'm only highlighting this song, all the songs are good. On side 2, it starts with that touch that characterizes glam from the heavy and catchy "Ride The Wind". Beautiful album, damn! Seriously, it is.
It's a beautiful experience and, in a way, a change of pace. It has some things that Cinderella did on their second album, Long Cold Winter, like touches of blues. Poison really went all out on this album; it's a purchase I don't regret.
Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall, Rikki Rockett, and John Webster on keyboards did a great job, from the beautiful-sounding vocals to the smallest details. It's a great glam metal album for the '90s.
If you haven't heard it, give it a chance; maybe you'll like it. If you're familiar with it... did you like it? Or hate it? If you've made it this far, thank you for reading this review, and best regards!
