The new album from Czech Republic Agony definitely sound old school Gothenburg Death Metal. It's a bit surprising actually because it's a bit more classic than their precedent effort that was a bit original. On the other hand, they chose to have some Doom Metal sonorities especially on some breaks and for some ambiances and one more time we're in front of something really good.
So what are the real differences between the new and the last album? As I said just above it's clearly Gothenburg Death now, when the precedent album was a bit more progressive and original but "My Turn To Die" is not a bad album and at the opposite there are some good things on it. The Doom Metal influences for example give some ambiances and melodic sad break that are really good and interesting.
Though, I have to add that "My Turn To Die" is a bit more classic than last album and to be honest even if the album is great, I regret it. Don't misunderstand me, this album is good and solid but I remember some "craziness" on "Call The Rain" and it was more than appreciable.
Note finally that we have a great effort on the production especially for the artworks and layout that are really better, no photo. Though even if the sound doesn't sound like a bit Scandinavian production it's a way better too, then I just imagine that it will be perfect the next time.
If you're a fan of the old albums of Dark Tranquillity or In Flames and want something violent but also melodic, I don't have anything to add, "My Turn To Die" is for you. Agony is a good band and I really hope that they will have the luck to find a good success other where than in Czech Republic, because believe me, they deserve it.
