All fans of old Candlemass and While Heaven Wept can stop reading now and can safely go to the record store to get their mitts on Throne Of Void by Isole.
What we have here is a very well-balanced slab of epic doom metal. As usual in this genre originality is of no concern to these Swedes. It's all about atmosphere and execution. Well, one thing can be said, there's nothing wrong with that on this album.
Autumn Leaves is a good opener which immediately sucks the listener into the album only to let him escape from its grasp after about 48 minutes. Only problem I have with this album is the lack of variation. It's all mid-paced to slow-paced epic doom without any real memorable moments. When a little variation in, for example, the chorus is used you instantly get more memorable songs that hook you. Demon Green is the telling example here. The variation in the vocal line in combination with the different executions of the chorus makes this the standout track.
So, for fans of old Candlemass and While Heaven Wept this album is a must. Well-executed songs with a squeaky clean production but unfortunately lacking original ideas. Had that been the case this album would have scored higher.
