Gallhammer is a girl band which comes from Japan. But of course, don't even believe that you'll be able to listen to some Japan Pop here, no, these girls are mighty and they play old school Black Metal, Doom and Punk?. Well yes, usually we call their music Crust? If you like simple music, "Ill Innocence" will be for you but I really hope that you're not looking for something complex? "Ill Innocence" is the total opposite?

I'm still wondering why some people said that the previous album of the combo was good. I tried to listen to it and I can tell you that I'm really open minded but I just find nothing in this release. I probably didn't understand the band's musical message but still when I listen to music even if it's simple I want to feel something and it wasn't the case with this CD. When I received the new Gallhammer I said to myself that it was a bad thing for me but I always give chances to the bands and I listened to this album a lot to understand it. I have a conclusion, if you're looking for musical skill, go away I'm sorry but it's not so far away of 0 but it seems that Gallhammer is improving a lot in the composition. Despite the real terrible voice of the singer, it's obvious that the music is better now. I wouldn't call it Black Metal and I think that Doom is a better classification. "Ill Innocence" is a correct album of really dark Doom, the ambiances are really good, scary and gloomy and the songs have good melodies. It's simple as hell and I say it again the vocals are horrible, but the melodies are good and finally without being fantastic, it's not displeasing to listen to this release.

What can I add? The sound of the new Gallhammer is really dirty but it fits perfectly to the genre. The performance of our girl is, as always, hum? "special" but if you're not looking for something complex it will be ok for you. All in all, it's an album for the fans of this kind of Metal but obviously this combo is becoming better and, with the help of Peaceville, they should become a bit more recognized if they follow this road.

If you like dark sound and simple but efficient slow riffs, have a look on this release. I will never say that it's a great amazing album but there is maybe something for you if you like such bands and maybe that you'll have a nice surprise. The other ones who want to listen to Metal with a bit of complexity will have to go away though, "Ill Innocence" is better than the first release of the band but can be totally uninteresting if you're not a fan of this kind of music?

I really liked Gloomy Lights (which I reviewed) so I'm really looking forward to this one! I appreciate the sinister atmosphere that Gallhammer creates and I love the eerie vocal styles they use. Evidentally it's not your cup of tea, but music doesn't have to be 'complex' to be effective IMO!

The previous album was awesome, so I'm certainly looking 4 this one...

And I agree with the guy above, this review was very bad... sometimes we actually want some explanation about the music, not just qualificative adjectives. All this review tell me is that Jeff doesn't like simple black metal, absolutely nothing more.

The first track is decent, but seriously, the vocal yelping used in the third track are just laughable!
EDIT - and the "Gloomy Lights" album IS good, and highly recommended over this album in my opinion...

This is a far superior album than Gloomy Lights, mainly because the instrumentation has drasticly improved. They sound like punk musicians playing doom metal with one of the worst death vocalists I've heard. The last 3 songs are very apocyliptic, and I love the Slaughter/Reaper vocal combo on Blind My Eyes - it's like a dog and it's squeeky chew toy. I'm not sure what their 3rd album will be like, since there apparently won't be any guitars on it. Just bass and drums sounds rather dull, unless maybe the bass plays the guitar lines.
Great album, except for Delirium Daydream which sounds like they're playing 3 different songs. My only real complaint is Slaughter's incoherency, because I can't tell when she's singing in english or japanese. 8/10.
