In France, we have some good bands which plays "dark" Metal. Some of you probably know Distress or Kemet and of course The Old Dead Tree, but they will have to remember the name of Dustbowl now. With their first album, "Drops Of Chaos" the combo from Paris clearly proves that they're still able to "fight" with the famous bands of the genre, and if you like Paradise Lost or A Perfect Circle I think that you'll have to check this release because definitely this is a really good beginning.

Don't expect anything brutal or heavy here, Dustbowl plays dark and melancholic music. It's a bit similar to The Old Dead Tree that's right and on a side I cannot say that Dustbowl has tried to create a new genre of music, though it's not really problematic because the final result is just good. If you like mid tempo songs with real melodies and of course with dark melancholic ambiances (and lyrics), I really think that "Drop Of Chaos" will be an album for you. The songs are slow and insistent, that's not Doom but more a kind of Gothic Metal, a bit like the last Paradise Lost's albums. The writing are intelligent and really I can tell you today that this release, first is good and second will be able to help a lot the band to quickly find recognition. To sum up, all the people here who like great melancholic Metal will have to listen to Dustbowl, they will discover a nice promising combo.

For a first album, it's already extremely convincing. The songs are good but the musicians of Dustbowl are great too. The deep and hot voice of Guillaume Host fits perfectly to the music of the combo and we cannot hear any French accent (that's a recurrent bad syndrome of a ton of French combos). Like with Anathema or Katatonia's releases, "Drops Of Chaos" is an album that you'll have to listen to in peace at home and you'll have to listen to it again and again to understand it and to enter in the musical universe of the band. Though their music is accessible and I cannot say anything wrong against this release Dustbowl has the potential to begin famous.

Fans of dark Metal, "Drops Of Chaos" is a must for you. The guys have found some great melodies and for sure they know how to write good Metal. For a first album, this is a nice discovering and I hope that the band will produce such kind of releases again in the future. Don't hesitate anymore if you like melancholic Metal "Drops Of Chaos" is one of the best surprises of the genre of the year 2007?
