Alternine is a new young French combo and we will talk today about their first demo. Composed of three really good musicians and a female singer, the band through this first release already proves that they will be able to do something great if they follow this road. Let's talk a bit about them and their music, I promise you that you'll not be disappointed even if of course the band still has to develop its music to release a convincing first album.

This demo is not particularly long but through the four songs I can already see a lot of potential in this band. First and that's a good thing, this is not really easy to put a label on the music of Alternine. I know that you all know some comparisons but it's really hard for me to take some names. Maybe that the lasts The Gathering and Katatonia, the progressive ones could be ok but seven there, this is not really similar. Alternine's music is a bit atmospheric, not really fast, extremely melodic and yes definitely, Progressive. The songs are deep with excellent constructions a lot of different passages but this is not technical Prog and sounds a bit more like a dark emotive deep Metal which cannot be compared to Doom or Gothic Metal. Alternine is modern and definitely not cliché.

I suppose that some of you are already a bit afraid by the fact that the band has a female singer but don't worry my friends, Latetia is not a new pseudo-symphonic singer. Her voice is maybe not perfect and a bit common but I'm sure that she will develop it with time, and at least she has her own personality and don't try to copy Tarja, Simone and all the other female Metal singers. The guys are good sure they don't play Dream Theater stuff but anyway this is not their main goal and they're really good to play their music. With a good production for a demo and with four really pleasant songs I can tell you that Alternine members has everything in their hands to convince all the people who use to listen to Progressive and melodic Metal.

I have a lot of good hopes for Alternine. I don't know if the band will be able to confirm my thoughts but really I invite you to have a look at their Myspace and you'll probably discover a cool fresh new band. I will keep an eye on them for sure, Alternine will probably do good things in the future.
