Fitting to the time of year, En Declin have just released their second album. This Italian quintet isn't easy to place musically. They play a poppy type of dark/alternative rock with indie influences and some slightly progressive touches. The result is a soft, dreamy, melancholic type of rock with a few powerful outbursts.

Before you start listening to this; it's important to know that Domino / Consequence is just as far from being metal as strawberry yoghurt is. Indeed - even though it tastes good - strawberry yoghurt is not very metal. However appreciators of this type of music will soon notice that En Declin make very mature and thoroughly enjoyable music. Singer Maos voice is warm and comforting while the guitars produce a dreamy and cosy background of (sometimes bluesy) dark rock.

The great big flaws of the album clearly are its length and its lack of variation. Unfortunately all songs sound very similar to each other. That considered the duration of 58 minutes is just too long. So whilst this release might be a great break from heavy guitars and thundering drums, it gets tiring quite a while before it's done.

Although the band could easily have dropped some of the lesser songs and being a bit braver regarding experiments seems like a good idea as well; Domino / Consequence can still be a highly enjoyable release for the open-minded music-lover. Like I mentioned before, this music is not meant for everyone. I already know for sure that most of you would find it dreadfully boring. However those looking for something "easy" and laid-back for relaxed moments should give these Italians a try, maybe they're exactly what you were looking for.

Favorite track: 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. A great cover that fits the album perfectly.
