Blake and the boys are in good form, banter is minimal as the band focuses on doping up the crowd with their drug-fueled, psychedelic blackish metal. The set list contains a nice sampling of their efforts over the last five years. So while I've heard most of these songs before (own the albums, not the EPs), live they carry a little bit of an edge that's been perhaps a tad lacking in their Assassins/Addicts releases.
Overall the sound is pretty awesome as well. Vocals sound great, as does the instrumentation. Some of the "effects" are perhaps a little loud in comparison, but it's a minor annoyance.
Live albums are hit or miss for me. Either the band lives up to, and goes beyond their studio sound when they take the stage, or they utterly fall flat and the album sounds piss poor in comparison to the band plus studio magic. Nachtmystium are definitely in the former category. At least they were at Roadburn, back in 2010. Which is absolutely amazing considering two of the players on this night, Ron van Herpen (Astrosoniq/The Devil's Blood) on guitar and Teun van der Velden (Astrosoniq), keyboards, stepped up to fill up holes in the band's touring line up. They had a whopping three hours of practice with the band. And that was on the day of the show. And they killed it.
So if you dig what Nachtmystium have been doing from Instinct:Decay onwards, and own a record player (sorry, limited run and in 180gram vinyl only? ), you're probably going to want this album.

I think the filling by the Astrosoniq guys hd to do with the fact a couple of band members were stuck due to a very annoying Icelandic vulcano that tried its best to fuck up Roadburn

Volcano footage would have been awesome. Especially if Nachtmystium were in the middle of some drug-addled solo while lava descended towards the audience and they were all screaming in terror - in their minds of course, because they're having a collective out-of-body experience, so what you actually see is a horde of psyched-out concertgoers awaiting their impending fiery doom with complete and utter indifference. Oh ya, nice review. Needs more volcano imo.
