Growth is an intrinsically capitalist value. To us, however, Metal Storm is a passion project. If we were running this for profit, I might agree with your assessment. But we don't. And we won't.

That's just a phrase, not how we look at the world. But it is a reality that social media has shaped peoples' expectations as to what a space on the internet should give to them. And we're not interested in being a platform.

I don't agree with that framing. And I don't want to reiterate all our motivation for what we're doing here again. It's all documented here on MS. It boils down to "we'll rather run a site for 5 amazing people than 1000 asholes".

ok interesting. just curious, why do we want to maintain a cult status? (I ask only with good intention). MS has been my goto place for some 16 years now so i'd love to see it more popular among the masses

And we're using Cloudflare to limit AI bot access to MS, which (as far as Google is concerned) puts an additional malus on our content.

And we're mostly here to be a great community, not to grow by any means necessary. So we're working on it, definitely have our eyes on it, but ultimately don't put priority on most metrics used to measure value on the internet.
