Kalmah are one of the biggest names in Finnish extreme power/melodic death metal and are a well-established group by now; time and again they have put out consistently high quality albums which are usually thematically centered on all things swampy. They are back in 2013 with Seventh Swamphony... and let's just say the swamp kings are, without a doubt, in fine form.

Pretty stoked for this one !

Name sounds corny, but the two songs released so far were pretty awesome. I think the planets have aligned for them on this album, lol.

Hope it doesn't come off as unnoticed since it's coming out at the same time as Black Sabbath's and Megadeth's new records.
RealEyes - 25.05.2013 at 09:04
Their last album was not so impressive...hope it will sounds like the old albums

Rating: 10 Last last one suffered from the nastiest production I've ever heard...I know they have an infatuation with swamps, but come on....

One of the worst album titles of all time.

this is not even close to "Turisas2013" ... it's not that bad
Bad English - 15.06.2013 at 14:15
I did tryd it and its is 100% Kalmah.... well I am not super fan, but I dont get it, such bands keep silent some years and then come back whit some own style album, why other bands cant keep on original sound?
HeadStone - 15.06.2013 at 14:38
Rating: 10 Epic epic epic !
hadriel - 15.06.2013 at 16:17
Rating: 8 The amount of solid solos that these guys always manage to chalk up baffles me. That being said, their past couple albums were pretty lacking in other aspects. This one seems to be a pretty solid return to form. Nothing really groundbreaking, but an enjoyable well-rounded melodeath release
Dinruth - 15.06.2013 at 19:31
I wanted to buy it today but that idiots in the store said it's not out until June 28th o_O
erat - 16.06.2013 at 13:04
Rating: 9 Epic album. Long live Kalmah, hail Swamplords!
Traezeus - 17.06.2013 at 09:40
Rating: 9 Absolutely sick album. Glad they went back to simpler melodies.. the technicality of the playing on 12 Gauge meets Black Waltz-esque catchy leads = greatness.
moe5512 - 17.06.2013 at 12:59
Rating: 8 Much better than 12 gauge where they tried to mix in Slayer to their music which was a failure, I can only think of one solid song on that album.
ArcesseEum - 17.06.2013 at 15:44
Rating: 6 Meh... its ok but it's no Black Waltz (or earlier work).
EmeraldSword - 17.06.2013 at 20:55
Rating: 7 I liked it, but I think the keyboardist needs a bit more practice. I miss the epic opening keys from songs like "Suodeth" or "The Third, The Magical."
Fallen Ghost - 18.06.2013 at 00:09
I miss their first keyboardplayer, the mystical, soft and atmospheric keyboards was just epic back then! As for this release, it's okay I guess. Have only listened through it once though, so gotta re-listen. For now, Pikemaster and Windlake Tale is the best songs in my opinion.
The Galactican - 18.06.2013 at 03:18
Rating: 9 Awesome energy on this record. I'd say their latest is one of this year's highlights for me!
moe5512 - 18.06.2013 at 12:09
Rating: 8 I'd say it's not so trendy with the early Bodom, Kalmah, Sonata Arctica etc. keyboards anymore, it's not because the new keyboardist is bad ( I really like them) but the keys should be bigger and massive nowadays and I for one like that
JÄY - 18.06.2013 at 22:31

I hear ya man, really awesome.. : ) This and For The Revolution are my definite favs. The new keyboardist adds some great stuff, love it. Though to be sure, I went back and listened to the keyboard solo on "Sacramentum". Awesome. Some of these lyrics are just so well fitting and hilarious, you have to love it. Hollo, the semi-ballad is pretty funny and gloomy, and then ends with an up-rise. "Hollo", "Ready for Salvation", and "Sacramentum" are easily becoming my favorites by this band, which is funny because they are very much the opposite from what originally got me hooked on the band; the early speedy stuff like Hades etc. Really glad to see Kalmah carving out their original style after all these years. Makes this guy teary-eyed.

I don't like the new keyboardist... He overcommits during the whole album. Guitars are still as awesome as always.

I thought they got him in pretty seamlessly. The keyboards are rarely too prominent in the mix and certainly don't detract from the sound, IMO. Agreed on the guitar work though. really good stuff.

Rating: 9 Probably their best album since The black waltz...

Really good... powerful, fast and whit the right dose of melodies!
Northern Danger - 05.11.2013 at 16:05
Rating: 9 Maybe best Melodeath work of 2013!
AtrumHiberna - 13.11.2013 at 04:41
Rating: 8 I think I prefer 12 gauge over this one, but it's still a great album nevertheless. The Trapper is a truly amazing song
Northern Danger - 27.11.2013 at 21:06

I agree. It's a good album. I don't mind the keys so much these days. I still think Black Waltz is where it's at with these guys. Seventh Swamphony doesn't come close in terms of energy and intensity.

I still think CoB won out in 2013 with Halo of Blood with more catchier songs.
