Biography
Meniscus are an instrumental post-rock band based in Sydney, Australia. The group consists of guitarist Daniel Oreskovic, bassist Alison Kerjean, drummer Alex O'Toole, and visual artist Martin Wong. They have been compared to artists such as Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Isis and Cog.
Described by the press as “forward-thinking” (The Drum Media), and “epic, symphonic and melodic” (Triple J), Meniscus seamlessly blends together elements of guitar-driven ambient soundscapes, hard-rock, electronic and psychedelic music.
Originally starting out as a three-piece in 2005, Meniscus has since expanded their live show to include video projections, mixed live by Martin Wong, and have released three records: Absence of I (EP) (2007), War of Currents (2011) & Refractions (2016). Well received by both fans and the media alike, the latter describing Refractions as “…executed with perfection. No instrument feels out of place at any point of time whatsoever” (Echoes and Dust)
Meniscus have played shows all over Australia and Europe. In 2012 alone, Meniscus played shows with the likes of Dead Letter Circus, Fair To Midland, Floating Me, Laura and Sleepmakeswaves, before heading to Europe in July to tour across 9 countries including shows with Rosetta, and a spot on Germany’s Fusion festival. The year was capped off in style by playing an evening set at Peats Ridge Festival (NSW) over the new-year weekend.
In 2015 the band touring nationally with Caspian before Cameron Brennan decided to leave the band, he was later replaced by Alex O’Toole. An appearance at BigSound at the end of 2014 led to an east coast tour with This Will Destroy You in early 2015 with the rest of the year spend in the studio working on new material.
An offer to tour the east coast of Australia in 2016 with The Fall Of Troy, Closure in Moscow and Osaka Punch provided Meniscus with an opportunity to hit the road and jump on stage again.
With a call from Dunk!Festival in Belgium, Meniscus embarked on a tour of Europe throughout May/June 2017 for an 18 date tour with We Lost The Sea and Dumbsaint.
Meniscus has had a quiet period since 2017, with Australian tours at the 2018 Progfest, and sideshows in support of headliners Leprous, as well as supporting slots for We Lost The Sea in 2019, Mono in 2020.
