You know the drill. Here's some rather fine sounding Cthulhu driven death metal that's not due for release until 2013, with extraordinarily beautiful cover artwork (check out the detail in the full image):

Posted this a while ago. It's quite good. Don't remember any black or thrash in it though. To me it sounded like mid-paced death metal, somewhat like Arghoslent.

extremely Arghoslent like I would say, especially due to the vocal delivery and the sort of riffing. Totally no black and thrash in there, at all.

I've been digging these albums this year:

-Paysage D'hiver "Das Tor"

-Dream Theater s/t

There's more, but I'm drawing a blank right now. Also, REALLY digging this black metal/ambient band I stumbled across on bandcamp called Eissturm. Looks like their EP is free here: https://eissturm.bandcamp.com/

Just heard a couple of tracks but this album must be pretty damn good. Some weird collaboration between a guy from Napalm Death, other from Sisters Of Mercy and another bunch of guys I have no idea of, released through Ipecac three days ago. Kinda reminds me to recent Shining (NOR).

Domovoyd's Oh Sensibility, Psychedelic spacey stoner doom. Almost like Oranssi Pazuzu without the black leanings. Pretty good, check this song out.

Solid Trad Doom with great female vocals (interesting lyrics as well)

EDIT : the band features members from Candlemass, Evergrey and Tiamat.

Mánégarmr - the first full-length from Belgium's Hessian. Ostensibly a hc/crust group, their playing nonetheless crosses the line into thrash, black and grind. Fans of bands like Nails, Black Breath, Trap Them, The Secret should have a look at this. Burly as fuck.

Wicked noise, drone and doom with Alan Dublin's (ex-Khanate) horrifying vocals. If you happen to enjoy Khanate, Alkerdeel, or any kind of "filthy" and "disturbing" music, definitely check Gnaw. "Horrible chamber" is the title of their new album, and it also works well as a description of the music.

You're right, I felt like hearing Muuklainen Puhuu (Or whatever it is called) without vocals. Decent stuff.

Okay, this is probably not going to be very popular here either, but this album honestly surprised me.

This is basically a "moshcore" album that somehow manages to be more than the sum of its parts. It is overrun with breakdowns and groove, though they are down pretty well, but what is really weird here is the band manages to somehow inject shittons of those high pitched "shimmering", delay/reverb laden Misery Signals-esque riffs into the music without it being disjunct from the heavy parts. And those are damn cool, they give off a quite gloomy/melancholic vibe, often having some really subtle dynamics with one another that I cannot even describe and the album manages to be pretty emotive and atmospheric while also bearing pretty much all aspects of generic but fun moshcore on it.
Definitely not innovative on a stylistic level but on an execution level, it surprisingly is.

And then of course there's Asking Alexandria... For the record, nobody ever asked Alexandria anything ever again.

It's nice. If you are looking for other related (doesn't always mean similar) sounds, take a butcher's at "Tranquility" from Outre and mentioned here Entropia "Vesper". Two, very successful debuts at this year's Polish black metal backyard. You will have a lot of fun with, for sure.

Have to check this out, thanks for the rec! They also released a split album with Thaw recently, so a lot of shit to follow.

I heard Vesper earlier this year and don't remember being too impressed, maybe I'll have to give it another shot. And I'll check out Outre, haven't heard of them yet. Thanks for the suggestions.
