Believe me, there was no Rammstein topic before.

One of the most well-known German bands. They started their characteristic Industrial sound with Herzeleid, which had powerful songs like "Asche Zu Asche" or "Du Riechst So Gut". Then came Sehnsucht, a musically more mature work ("Spiel Mit Mir", "Tier", "Engel") that included their hit "Du Hast". In 2001, Rammstein released their masterpiece Mutter (their best album so far in my opinion) with great songs like "Feuer Frei!", "Links 234" or "Spieluhr".

After the release of "Mutter", many Rammstein fans were disappointed, as the band recorded a blatantly weaker album called Reise, Reise. This one featured some radio-friendly songs that kept the old Rammstein sound ("Amerika", "Stein Um Stein"), but the inclusion of an annoying female voice in "Moskau", a simple rhythm with no structure in "Los" and those two ballads to finish the album ("Ohne Dich", "Amour") didn't please the broad fanbase of the band in general. Last year, their last album, Rosenrot, came to the light. It was another controversial album that features an unorthodox song sung in Spanish ("Te Quiero Puta!") and a duet with Till Lindemann and Sharleen Spiteri ("Stirb Nicht Vor Mir") among other songs.

My favourite Rammstein album is Mutter and my favourite songs by them are "Asche Zu Asche", "Feuer Frei!" and "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir" (which I find so beautiful). What do you think about this band?

Yeah well, I just found it interesting. But Rammstein is so original/different that I don't think that they have to copy anyone to make new songs

Rammstein used to be one of my favorite bands, but then i got into a lot of other stuff - different genres and stuff, mainly thanks to this site - and so i listened to them less and less

i listened to a couple of tracks from 'Sehnsucht' a week ago or so though (that was my favoite album)
and i still thought they sounded rather brilliant
i think it a shame they have toned down on their new albums

Gotta love Mutter

As much as I hated this band years ago are now among my faves. As many, I love Mutter the best as well. I don't listen to industrial music much, so I really can't compare them to any other band, I just simply enjoy their music. From Herzeleid to Rosenrot. Yepp, as much as Rosenrot is hated and got low reviews, I just can't resist listening Stirb Nich Vor Mir/ Don' Die Before I Do daily. Same goes for my all beloved Ohne Dich from Reise Reise which is one of the most tehcnically advanced albums they created.

As they say, they come from working class and there's no better music to listen when I'm wroking around the house (yes, I do manual laber I am manly )

@GT : no, no, you're not the only one, I like 'Reise, Reise' and 'Rosenrot' myself. I can't understand why most fans don't like these two, and love 'Mutter', which was the first step to their current more technical and high level compositions. This way they could change their music, keeping the power and fire.
For 'Rosenrot', maybe it was released too soon after 'Reise, Reise'.

I've always had sort of a pocket like of this band [I kind of enjoyed their music...in spurts]. But ever since I started taking my German language classes...I've enjoyed them a lot more, because I get the added satisfaction of partially translating their songs by ear lol. I love Engel and Keine Lust myself.

I really liked the techno elements of the first and second albums. Mutter had it's moments (I liked "Feuer Frei" in particular) but the last two albums, while technically good, sounded more like someone trying to imitate Rammstein, and not actually Rammstein themselves. Moskau, Mein Teil, and a few others were good tracks, but they just didn't sound the same to me as Heirate Mich and Küss Mich (Fellfrosch).

Been a fan of this band for quite a while, though my interest has waned more recently.

Mutter is my favourite album from them, though without a doubt all 5 studio releases have their strong points. Unfortunately, a couple of them have some pretty low low-points.

From Reise, Reise - I enjoyed the entire album to start with, even Moskau, as it was something fresh and interesting, albeit strange and not necessarily amazing-sounding. I find that particular song fairly painful to listen to nowdays, though the rest of the album is strong. Probably the other most controversial song on the album (in terms of people disliking it) is "Los". Personally I think it was one of the more interesting and ingenious songs on the album. The lyrics are quite clever, and the style of the song a nice break from the norm. The title track is my favourite from this album.

From Rosenrot - Te Quiero Puta! I found quite simply awful from the very first listen. In fact, when I purchased the album, I gave it many listens over the first few days. Te Quiero Puta got one listen. I skipped it after that for a few weeks. Having gone back and given it another chance, my opinion hasn't changed a whole lot, though I admit it is catchy when Till is singing, the female vocals (more talking/squealing than singing) are fucking awful. They ruin any chance the song had at being listenable imo. Overall I rate the album above Reise, Reise as I enjoy the rest of the songs. Feuer Und Wasser being my favourite from the album.

The earlier two albums are both fairly strong - though Sehnsucht is probably my least favourite Rammstein album (Despite having my favourite song from them on it - Klavier). There are unfortunately a few songs there which I would term 'boring' though lyrically they're still good. I do find it difficult to listen to them (espeically sehnsucht) from start to finish, nowdays.

Uhm, i'll stop now.

Haha, I remember when I first heard Te Quiero Puta, I thought it was going to be a German sung song, with a Spanish title (like Adios). Boy was I wrong. Halfway throught the song it occured to me that I understood some of the lyrics. Gee, it IS Spanish.

Happens all the time:

"QUESTION: Laibach can't seem to get WAT reviewed without silly comparisons to Rammstein. I've seen lots of arguments about Rammstein stealing elements from Laibach in the past, mostly concerning vocal style and even logo design. I'm curious of your reaction to this.(Altercation, USA, 2004)

LAIBACH: Laibach does not believe in originality and we don't consider ourselves as sole authors and owners of our own ideas. Therefore Rammstein could not "steal" much from us. They simply let themselves be inspired by our work, which is an absolutely legitimate process. We are glad that they made it. In a way they did the dirty work instead of us. They also have proved once again that a good "copy" can be more successful in the market than the "original". Anyhow, today we share the territory: Rammstein are Laibach for adolescents and in reverse Laibach are Rammstein for "adults"."

Only decent Rammstein albums are the ones that end up with Mutter. Everything else that comes after that are really not my cup of tea. I dont find the last two albums interesting at all. For some they have some hidden meaning (like in America), but not for me - and if the band has nothing good to give anymore, it is'nt interesting anymore. The old Rammstein had strenght and power - just listen to songs like Du Riechst So Gut, Mein Herz brennt or Sehnsucht and you get the point. Even the slower songs like Engel and Wilder Wein are way better than Rammstein's current way of making music.

Try Mann Gegen Mann, you'll find power. I find Reise Reise and Rosenrot have more melodies and slow tempos, but still full of power. I think they have A LOT good things to give.
Concerning the lyrics, they've always put meaning and humour in it. Check to find a website where it's explained, there's one in French, it helps me a lot. Take Links 2 3 4 (in Mutter album), it's an answer to people telling they were near nazis. Rammstein themes are sex, sins, death and religion, and it's how it is from the first album. The name itself comes from one of their first song : Rammstein, telling about the accident at the american base of Rammstein.
It's sad to see most of fans don't like the last two albums just because it has a little less power, though it's still meaningfull.

It all depends how people like the new sound and get into it. Maybe if I had listened Rammstein without long breaks, maybe the difference wouldnt have been so big. Some go with it, some dont even see the difference and some find it too new/different.

"Rosenrot" is truly worth purchasing. The entire cd is totally cool and there are a few sleepers.(But, doesn't most cd's have these too?)

"Benzin", "Mann gegen Mann", "Rosenrot" "Wo bis du", "Stirb nicht vor mir", "Zerstoren", "Hilf mir", "Te quiero puta!" and "Feuer und wasser" are the best songs on the cd IMO.

It's interesting to see that Rammstein has progressed as a band and not given into commercialism like so many bands do.(I.e..Metallica and Aerosmith.)

Rammstein videos are still fashioned in the old school tradition where the music fits the subject matter and the lyrics fit the actions that you see. not too many bands can boast about that nowadays. If it weren't for bands like Rammstein the video form would have died many years ago. They have taken this to a true artform.(Look at "Sonne" , "Du reichst so gut"(both versions) and "Benzin.") The guys are accomplished musicians that deserve the praise for their hard work.

They perhaps have been labeled in the wrong genre at times.

Rammstein is German industrial metal.

They do not try to be anything else. Don't expect them to be heavier or lighter than they seem to be. Sometimes they play love ballads and sometimes deep destructive Sh## but this shows that they are diversified and can play a large range of music.

There are many bands from other genres besides metal that do the same thing and are successful at it.(A-ha is one of the others from the Pop genre..they hired the Rammstein video director to produce their video "Celice" from the new cd...and it was a big success.)

Rammstein will always have a major place in my heart and if people would just listen...they would understand.

Thanks!
