I'll probably never get a thumb up for this list as there are a lot of controversial albums on it. 2003 is on the other hand maybe the best metal year so far in my opinion. It was here I really started listening to metal and nothing else. The top 4 has had a huge impact on me as a metalhead.

An interesting year considering many of my favourite bands with a relative big discography released strong albums (Tiamat, Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth, Opeth, Moonspell, Metallica). Overall, it's not the best of years. The first three on the list are the definitive highlights.

Such a great year! Deathstars released another masterpiece, the Shining album is brutally underrated, Immortal stunned me and even Slayer released, to my suprise, solid stuff.
