Plenty of bands have taken stylistic directions that have lost them fans; fewer of them manage to win part of that lost fanbase back whilst continuing in the same direction. With Aphelion, Leprous may not convince everyone that was put off by Pitfalls, but they've at least got me back on board.

Gonna put it up front, "Nighttime Disguise" is just about the only song that piqued my interest.

On first listens, MUCH prefer this to Pitfalls - not just because its veers somewhat more towards rock (and to a degree, metal), albeit not to the level of even Malina, but because the instrumentation takes far more advantage out of Baard and Tor, and the songs feel less melodramatic and more sprawling in the directions they spread into. honestly wasn't expecting to like it all that much after the lead single but this is something I hope might actually inspire revisits after I've finished the review process

Excellent. Much more dynamic, less emo than the previous release.
Very positive surprise.

Ah, the bi-annual experiment to see how close you can mic instruments and mouths. Love Leprous, but holy crap do they go out of their way to produce for hipster coffee shops.

Just finished listening to it, quite good, better or at least more interesting and entertaining than their last couple of releases.

MUCH better than their last release, still my second least favorite album of theirs. Unlike most metal, my normie wife didn't hate it when I put it on in the car so I guess there's some use for this album.....

Better than the last album but still not that great. It sounds so phoned in and boring.

Its like with every album they're just asking themselves "how much more hipster we can get?"
I miss old Leprous.

So far seems worse than Pitfalls. Pitfalls was softer but catchy, this one is neither catchy nor that much heavier that would indicate they are back to playing metal.

I really dig this. It seems like they took the best parts of Pitfalls and improved (a lot) on the weakest. I think the contrast between the slow and fast sections is better achieved in this offering, although one thing I would want them to revise furthermore is their reliance on the later. That being said, the composition is overall strong and the album flows really well. The instruments have more shining moments and sound tighter together. It is a good step into the right direction. Good album!

I think they're falling into a hole with their song writing. I love the congregation and Malina, and enjoy pitfalls. But it feels like their formula that they started with on congregation (ie long mellow intro, followed by some catchy chorus) is exacerbated here, to the point where it is just predictable and a bit boring. Works on some songs, but when evert single song basically follows this pattern (and is better done on previous releases), it results in a pretty average release to me. I think it's sad that the most interesting part is the last minutes of the final song, when things are finally shook up a bit, and I realize how much I miss a Leprous that blends musical styles more.

This band, in my humble opinion, has been going down the drain after The Congregation. They used to be one of my favourites but now I just can't understand them at all. I really miss them 😭😭😭

Really good album. There's some Ulver vibes going on, that I like. By accident I listened to Silent Revelation and it got me hooked, now I'm fan again.

It grows on you on with every listen, nice album overall
+Musicianship, song structures
+Maybe the finest Einar vocals
+Fresh ideas
+Some very addictive songs
-I wanted a bit more metal oriented approach once again...
-The album lacks continuity, it sounds more than a collection of good independent songs
-"All the moments" is not a good fit in this album

Quoting myself.

I stand by what I said earlier, but all the songs have grown on me. Especially Nighttime Disguise is a sick track. If they had some more songs of this vein, it would be their best album.

Leprous is getting way to dependent on Einer's vocals. But man, the dude sings like an angel. The instrumentation is really minimal. Also the songs have started to sound alike. Maybe the band should take a break for a while before coming up with any other new albums. It feels like a Leprous overdose in the last five years or so.

Overall the superior songwriting makes the album a really good one, but still, like a few more pepole said, the songs are getting predictable, boring and formulaic.
