I love the single!! Those thick vibratos feel a bit contrived though. but I love the sound! Plus, the growls are back!!! Who would have thought?!

So the song is pronounced, "Section 1"

Not bad! Honestly, I don't actively listen to anything Opeth put out after Deliverance/Damnation, anything after that, I listen to at a far lesser extent, and I am significantly less familiar with songs they've put out in the last 20 years. I'm low key trying to fix that. I foolishly stopped following them in my teen years on account of expecting them to one day release another Blackwater Park! Luckily, I've matured and developed a more open mind since then.

So anyway, I was hardly even aware at all that they haven't been doing harsh vocals for as long as I've been out of high school

Good news!

The king of the jungle ROAR again. Rawr!

I like the song. I'm not blown away, but I still like it a lot. The transition from the calmer intro section into distorted guitars is really cool. Together with the pendulating glissando that is adding to the weird and unsettling atmosphere. I think (and hope) this album might turn out to be the oddest one in their discography, even if I were to ignore the fact that Mikael decided to bring back the growls after all. Or if I ignore when he suddenly got tired of them, now that I think about it.

Anyways, doesn't really matter as long as it's a solid album. Needless to say, I'm eager to see what lies ahead.
