While not yet a norm it is genuinely pleasing to see bands succeeding at crowd funding their own creative output. And while it is somewhat curious to see established acts like Spock's Beard - who already have 10 albums to their name - doing it, a successful funding campaign might actually only be mounted when you've got a credible history and a lot of quality material to show for all the years of hard work. For the fan the main question in such a case is: will the 11th album be good enough?

One of the weakest albums by the mighty Beard for me. Also, hope I don't sound paranoid saying this (probably I do), but I get a creepy Porcupine Tree vibe from parts of it and I actually suspect that might be both the reason why I don't like as much as their other albums it and why so many people on ProgArchives seem to like it a lot. On Prog Archives it is rated exactly as high as Snow, which is ridiculous imo.

I do not hear any Porcupine Tree in SB's music, but anyway...
As for that "ridiculous" part you mention, Snow is one of those love it or hate it album. Personally it did nothing for me, I found it quite boring, it was Morse's trying to create a Lamb Lies Down on Broadway or something.

While this doesn't validate my feelings, I know I am not alone. Quite a few "reminds me of Porcupine Tree" comments on YT when it comes to the single from this album. Personally, I get a lot of PT-vibes from some of the heavier moments.

Snow is indeed a love it or hate it type deal and the parallels to Lamb and Gabriel leaving Genesis are obvious to anyone, but my love for Snow aside, I always prefer that bands take influence from superior and not inferior bands.

If nothing else, "A Treasure Abandoned" is a beautiful piece of prog-rock

I'm not sure I understand what you say here. "Superior and not inferior bands"... superior to whom?
I was not even thinking about the similarity 0 Gabriel leaving Genesis to Morse leaving Spock's Beard. So not that obvious to me.
