If you could encase within a coffin all that is texturally appealing about doom metal, Pallbearer knowingly carry six of these coffins to their grave in Foundations Of Burden. This is not to suggest that they simply bring the traditional sound of a genre to its untimely end, but, rather, in our modern era they place it respectfully in an ideal and honourable resting place. Ad Memoriam Doom.

Thus far, I prefer Capilla Ardiente's debut over this. Sample.

Awesome indeed.

I really want to give this an 8. A lot of great, epic moments on here but it feels like they don't focus on them enough for the 55 minute length. Think I'd rather they stop wandering around the place, shave 15 or 20 minutes off and give us a filtered epic doom number with a better concentration of euphoric riffs. Weirdly 'Ashes' was probably my fave track on this. Probably because it didn't cause my mind to wander like moments of other tracks did.

Gotta be honest though, there's not much justification for Pallbearer being the darling child of doom at the moment. They're good, but not that good. One step forward after the two steps back of the previous album. Still the demo to top / match.

Monumental album in my opinion, and for me one of the finest releases of 2014. It's not for everyone, but I really this style of metal personally. Highlights for me would be 'Worlds Apart', 'The Ghost I used to Be' and the closing 'Vanished', which often reminds me of 'To Bid you Farewell'.

Fantastic doom. Better than the demo and Sorrow and Extinction.

That's the album I mention in the shoutbox sometimes. My favorite doom metal album from this year.

Why isn't this album showing up in the top 20 of 2014 when it's score is high enough for the top 3 ?

Because the band's status is still invisible on the site, for some reason.

Fixed that problem.

I decided for an 8. I have appreciation for this record more deserving of a 9, but what Joe says is true; they wander a lot on most songs and it's a shame.

After listening to this album 5 times, i'm rating it a 8. Amazing atmosphere on some songs. My only gripe is some songs just go nowhere for ages (like track 2 and 3), i feel like these songs could be broken up a little more. I think it's almost on par with the first album for me which i loved. Their method for this album is almost identical to the first album, so it was easily to enjoy. I'd like to see a little more variations in their sound sometimes though, as it's pretty flat listening to the albums through from start to finish. Great album all the same.

Favourite songs: 'World's Apart' is the standout, 'The Ghost i Used to Be' is awesome, especially toward the middle. These two songs are easily up there with Foreigner, my personal favourite.

Yeah, this is really good, even with a little wandering it still manages to hold my attention (which is a feat). The fuzzy low end and soaring leads combined with the angelic vocals really make this band the tops of trad doom. (not that I delve deep into this style, so bear with me, Marcel)

Excellent album on par with previous work Sorrow and Extintion, requires a few times of listeting since it is not so catchy on a first listen. In my oppinion, Pallbeare put some great effort to compose something more complex and uncatchy, but still so unique and enjoyable to listen in the end.

Nice traditional doom, but 55 minutes is long for this album.

Indeed, it is these exact 3 songs that I would see as highlights here, too.
Great album, their best for me. Pity that not all tracks here are entirely at par with the 3 ones mentioned.
Some 7.8 overall in my books.

I would swap Vanished for Watcher In The Dark.

In total a very good Doom record.
