The Calm Hunter meanders as it seeks out more melodious terrain for Isole's doom metal. This decision brings with it an inconsistency in the catalogue of the Swedes, who have maintained a style of their own under the Isole name ever since their debut in 2005.

It's an ok album, it's just not really much stands out and songs tend to drown into one another. Best song is probably the title track. I can't say there are any bad songs though.

I really wanted to love this album, but it just doesn't have the charm of the last few. Much fewer contrapuntal melodies, fewer vocal harmonies, less crushing drums, less overall epic-ness. When I hear Born from Shadows or Bliss of Solitude I get mad chills, this album doesn't really do that at all for me. I don't want to shit talk this album too much because I generally love these guys so much, but yeh... this album was really not up to usual Isole standards (though I realize it's virtually impossible to live up to something like Silent Ruins).

Indeed. However, it's a formula they should work on for the next album. There was just nothing that wow'ed me on this album. Isole are catchy as fuck, but certainly not on this album. I need those meaty epic riffs and vocal harmonies back.

Have they changed singers? The lead vocals sound different.

Nope, they haven't. It's still Daniel for the clean vocals and Crister for the harsh ones and Jimmy also did some vocals. I guess that's why think it's different, because Jimmy wasn't part of Isole on their previous albums, where Henrik did some vocals.

Well, Daniel must be doing something different, cause it really sounds like a different singer.

Sounds more like Erab Altor than Isole. Also reminds me of Opeth's Watershed for some reason.

The first two songs are great, but then the band tapers down into some really average pieces of music.
