Tempel (NOR) - Biography

Biography

Looking for some new riff-lords to darken your existence? Look no further than Norway's Tempel. Formed by Kvelertak-drummer Kjetil Gjermundrød and his brothers Espen and Inge, along with childhood friend Andreas Espolin Johnson, this band promises to slay straight from the outset.

While the band's visual profile and music presents the band as a dark entity, Tempel's music and live shows also demonstrate a fun-loving crew who don't take themselves too seriously, paying homage to rock 'n' roll greats with emphasis on both musicianship and showmanship.

Although this album no doubt is metal AF, the observant listener will recognize the influences and references scattered throughout; from the hardcore-esque vocals, through blackened segments and thrashy breaks, to melodic shredding and classic rock riffage. Tempel effortlessly distills all this into their own fist-pumping, magic brew, while simultaneously paying homage to heroes such as Hellacopters, Mastodon and Enslaved.

Having toured Europe as support for Kvelertak, Tempel have honed their live skills and crafted a show to behold. Live, drummer Kjetil has stepped aside due to his busy schedule with Kvelertak, handing the drumsticks to young powerhouse Jonas Usterud Rønningen, without lessening the group's sonic impact one decibel.

All lovers of ass-kicking metal should pay attention, but Tempel's music should appeal to fans of bands as diverse as Guns 'n' Roses, Thin Lizzy, Sibiir and (of course) Kvelertak.
