Formed in 1986 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Angkor Wat was an integral part of the hardcore punk DIY scene that took root throughout South Texas during the mid to late 80s.
Angkor Wat put out two albums with Metal Blade/Death Records, and were known for the energy of their DIY shows. They played shows with bands including Cryptic Slaughter, GBH, the Accused, and Suicidal Tendencies. Their peers in TX included Devastation (4), Rotting Corpse, and the Fearless Iranians from Hell.
The band broke up in 1991, but is seeing a reformation in 2018.
