Biography
Just as the world wouldn't reveal itself in the complex form that we now know if not for the intricate mechanics of nature, we also could not have been who we are today without the strong heritage passed on throughout centuries by our ancestors.
Besides the passion for their people's history, this is perhaps the main reason why GOD, the barbarian folk metal band from Romania - and one of the elders of the country's metal wave - is among the very few who have become keen to celebrating the legacy of their forefathers.
Be it the spirit of the mighty Dacian warriors or the valiance of the nation's great voivods of yore, GOD's music depicts the battle tales and the celebration lore of illustrious historical figures from times of myth and legend.
Comprised of some of the best musicians, all with previous musical activity, the group is currently based in Iaşi, the former capital of the country, and a monument of culture in itself.
From its early beginnings, together with a few other prominent bands, The Horde, as they call themselves, shifted the tectonics of the metal stage. It has also won numerous prestigious awards throughout its constant activity, which crystallized into 5 promo and 4 album releases, with another one currently under development.
During its tumultuous existence, GOD changed musical orientation from the early gothic metal (see first album, "From The Moldavian Ecclesiastic Throne" rated 9 by German RockHard magazine) to one they call 'Barbarian Metal', somewhat similar to that of bands like Finntroll, Amon Amarth, Eluveitie, Arkona or Moonsorrow.
Although never having the chance to meet any of these, the band still had some great openings, playing alongside giants of the musical genre, such as Moonspell, Napalm Death, Belphegor, Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, Agathodaimon and others.
Although the musical style has changed as years passed, the conceptual themes in GOD's music remained the same. They mainly refer to the history and way of life of the Romanian people, from the Dacian people, the great voivods, and nation's great warriors, to the deities they used to worship. All these things are well reflected in the band's gear, clothing, used props (swords, bows, horns) or in the choice of musical instruments, as well as in the energy that characterizes their live performances.
A new album, "Sufletul Neamului", is currently in the works, a material which, along older and more famous of GOD's songs, stands as the core of the band's live shows.
