Tales Of Dark... - Biography

Biography

Tales Of Dark... is a death doom metal band from Novi Sad (Serbia), which has been active for four years already. In that time the band has recorded a demo CD, played many interesting concerts (some of which have been very important for the band's further career), had appearances on several national radio and TV shows, and did a number of interviews published in various magazines, fanzines and webzines - all with the purpose of introducing the band to a wide national audience.

The mentioned demo CD, bearing the title U Kori Tame, was recorded in early 2003 in Novi Sad and it is the first studio recording of the band. It was well received by the audience and the webzines and fanzines, as well as some radio stations promoting it. The CD contains 4 songs (3 in English and 1 in Serbian), the total running time of which is 27 minutes and it represents the first period of the band's creative efforts. This material was done when the lineup was somewhat different than it is now; consequently, the genre of music was somewhat different - namely, the demo contains quite a bit of gothic metal influences alongside doom and death metal riffs.

Two years after releasing this recording it can be confidently stated that the aforementioned demo has played the most important part in acquainting the national auditorium with Tales Of Dark.... Using the benefits of the World Wide Web during 2004, the band introduced their music to a worldwide audience, and was met with good reviews and a great interest in the band's current work and future efforts.

Only three people stayed in the band out of the lineup that recorded the demo. The original keyboardist, Predrag Babic, was replaced after joining the army, while bassist Radenko Maric and vocalist Borka Medic left the band due to disagreements about the music. Drummer Vuka-in Mandic left Tales Of Dark... to work with another band (Anguish Sublime), the genre of which was closer to his personal taste.

Bassist Svetlana Radeka and vocalist Jovana Karajanov joined the band in December 2003. The last member that joined the band was Darko Stojanovic, who became the band's new drummer in April 2004. With these lineup changes, the band solidified their sound and met all the conditions for recording their first full-length album, as well as for full concert activity.

As soon as the lineup became stable, the band started working on new material, and had about 20 concerts, including both solo performances and concerts with bands playing different genres of metal during 2004. In July 2004, Tales Of Dark... performed at the Future Shock stage of the EXIT Festival, and a month and a half later at the famous Zajecar Guitar Festival, where the jury voted them second and the audience third out of 120 demo bands of all genres. This event was a peak in the band's career, even more so because the genre of music Tales Of Dark... plays is not considered commercially appealing. This served as a testament to the band's quality and serious approach and devotion to music.

For the remainder of the year the band rehearsed material for the first album, the recording of which started in January 2005 and ended after 3 weeks spent in Studio Dream in Backi Maglic. Six new songs of quality, modern death doom metal were recorded (with a running time of over 70 minutes), released by Solitude Productions.

The band also appeared on the Metal Hammer stage of the EXIT Festival in 2005, alongside bands such as Napalm Death, Agnostic Front, and others...
