Biography
From home page:
Mena Brinno was formed after Marius and Katy were asked to prepare an acoustic set for their previous band's tour. In the process of developing this set, they discovered a musical compatibility that led to the creation of this band. Having played together, recorded together, and toured together for three years the transition was very natural to starting their own group. They immediately began playing a live set of the acoustic versions of Mena Brinno songs and are currently playing with the full band
From myspace:
Two more different backgrounds could not be imagined. The female lead singer is a classically trained opera singer who got her degrees at Carnegie Mellon (USA) and Birmingham Conservatoire (UK). She played the roles of Adina, Cleopatra and Papagena and sang with The Orlando Opera and Atlanta Opera companies. The lead guitarist comes from Poland, Europe, and has spent his life working in the world of metal in a variety of Tampa based bands. After years of toiling in different musical universes, one spring night in 2006 Katy Decker and Marius Kozlowski found themselves on another continent stripping the metal out a former band's material to make an acoustic set for European audiences. The experience proved an epiphany. Katy and Marius realized they not only shared the same musical loves but ultimately wanted the same thing to create songs that cast metal from the timeless raw material of American folk music. The result Mena Brinno (Old Gothic 'Moon Fever') has produced two albums todate, Icy Muse (2007) and Wicked Polly (2009).Former professional boxer Vince Greco (former frontman of Dusted Ash) was called in to play bass. Drummers have included Rob Genito (Cellpan), Jeff Thal (A Deeper Down) and currently Rob Sinzieri. Situated in Tampa, Florida it might be strange to think that the known death metal scene in their home area gave birth to Mena Brinno. Each show they play, though, attracts more and more people and Mena Brinno has caught the attention of the leaders of this death metal scene. Erik Rutan of HATE ETERNAL, asked Katy to appear on their 2008 Metal Blade release, Fury and Flames, on the track "Coronach" and has been received enthusiastically by metal fans worldwide.
