The end of the world is nigh. Again. For the sixth time Ragnarök Festival, named after the Twilight of the Gods in Norse mythology, is going to take place in Germany. All æsir and warriors have heard the call of the Gjallarhorn and are heading towards Lichtenfels in Northern Bavaria. Among them are reunited viking metal legends Einherjer who will make their first live appearance in five years. They will be joined by Austria's avantgarde act Dornenreich with their return to black metal and Swedish viking metallers Thyrfing. Fellow Swedes Månegarm, Finnish wood dwellers Korpiklaani and Faroese progressive folk metal band Týr will be giving their best to entertain the masses of folk metal fans. Connoisseurs of black metal will be pleased with the confirmation of Middle Eastern influenced Melechesh, Germany's Dark Fortress, Windir offspring Cor Scorpii and TNBM devotees Sarkom. And if that wasn't enough already there are also two record release shows: Wolfchant will introduce their new album "Determined Damnation" while symphonic viking metallers Fjoergyn will deliver a set comprised mostly of material from their upcoming album "Jahreszeiten" ("Seasons"). The entire lineup and running order can be found below.
The festival is once again going to take place in the town hall of Lichtenfels in Northern Bavaria, located between Coburg and Bamberg. You can easily get there by car, train and plane. Trains from the directions Nuremberg, Coburg, Saalfeld, Bamberg/Würzburg and Bayreuth/Hof pass through Lichtenfels at least once per hour. Furthermore the InterCityExpress (ICE, the German high-speed train) on the route Berlin - Nuremberg (- Munich) stops in Lichtenfels every two hours. For time-tables visit the site of the Deutsche Bahn.
The nearest international airports are in Nuremberg and Erfurt; bigger international airports with significantly more connections are located in Frankfurt and Munich, from where you can take the train to Lichtenfels. You can also try your luck at the official forum to find people to travel together with.
For car routes you might want to consult Google Maps.
The ticket pre-selling runs until 3rd April. Tickets can be obtained via the festival's webshop, Napalm Records, Nuclear Blast, Metaltix and Ticketmaster. Information on the price and availability of tickets at the box office will be published at the beginning of April.
For everything else an expansive FAQ can be found on the festival's website.
