Technical death metal icons Atheist have announced the rescheduling of their 'Enthralled In Europe Tour', which was initially set to take place last year, and would have been their first visit to Europe since 2011, but the coronavirus pandemic had caused the tour to be pushed back at a later date. This tour package will now take place in February 2022, and includes support from Cadaver, Svart Crown, From Hell, Critical Mess and Typhus. In music news, Atheist have reportedly been working on a new album that is tentatively due for release later this year or next year on Agonia Records, and it will be the band's first full-length record since 2010's Jupiter.

As of now, you can check out rare footage of the last-ever live performance of the classic Atheist line-up, and the last show bassist Roger Patterson ever played. It was filmed at The Waters Club in San Pedro, CA on the Candlemass/Atheist U.S. tour in February 1991. This footage is included on the DVD portion of the newly-announced CD/DVD deluxe reissue of Atheist's classic album Unquestionable Presence, coming July 24th via Season Of Mist.

Official press release
Forefathers of progressive extreme metal Atheist parted ways with bassist Tony Choy (ex-Cynic, ex-Pestilence, C-187). Freshly done with the recording sessions of long-awaited fourth studio album Jupiter, Kelly Shaefer and Steven Flynn wrote the following statement on behalf of the band:
"First we would like to extend sincere apologies to all Atheist fans around the world. We have been silent on the matter of a former member being dismissed for some time, but we were entirely focussed on recording our new album Jupiter. Therefore, we did not want to get sidetracked on an issue, which, quite honestly, was far less important to us than it might appear to some looking in from the outside.
When we came together to write again, it was an obvious choice, for several reasons, to try and continue in what has been our touring line-up. We've had such a great time together on the road for the past four years. We're all great friends, and all of us were working peacefully towards the completion of the album. Therefore it hit us very unexpectedly when Tony called one day and informed us that he would not record with us. What's worse is that this happened only four weeks prior to our confirmed studio date. This left us in a very unfortunate position and without a choice.
Although we are quite angry with him for this extremely late, and inconsiderate, change of heart, we have no desire to let this become personal or start some public feud. We simply want to be sure the facts are out there so we can get on with writing and playing music. While this might come as a surprise to some, we simply shrugged our shoulders and continued on, un-phased, for one simple reason: Tony was never instrumental to Atheist's sound in the first place. The true genius behind the technical bass lines of Unquestionable Presence was co-founding member Roger Patterson. It's not well known to today's fans that Roger actually wrote all the bass tracks just prior to his ultimately sad and tragic death and deserves the credit. Tony simply played what was written. However, the public perception has become distorted over the past two decades. It was the trio of Steve, Kelly and Roger who helped to bring Atheist alive - and continue to do so today - without Roger of course. Tony had no influence on the band's original sound.
It was that one young, gifted kid, Roger Patterson, who inspired subsequent generations of bass players to delve into technical metal and bring their instrument to the forefront. Yet unfortunately Roger has not always received the credit due to him. With all due respect, most of the credit has been misplaced on Tony. It was actually following Roger's terrible accident that Tony joined us, after Doug Keyser from Watchtower declined our offer to join for personal reasons. It must be said that nobody can deny Tony did a good job of playing the parts written by another musician. We will never stop being thankful for Tony to step in and help us out at that most difficult time. He remains a great friend. Apart from that, however, Tony's contribution to the sound of Atheist consists only of his participation as a fifth contributing member in writing Elements. We leave it to Cynic and Pestilence to tell their own stories, if anybody feels the need to hear them.

Kelly Schaefer, vocalist/guitarist of Atheist - who are in the middle of recording a new studio album - has issued the following update:
"After a year's worth of shredding and writing non-stop Atheist metal, in the last 10 weeks I wrote a bunch of tunes that are very far from metal. They are just sketches with friends, but for those with an open mind, I welcome you to check them out and your feedback is welcome. They are just demos, and mostly acoustic, don't bitch at me about it, haha.
I have plenty of metal for you all when this Atheist record hits, and recording starts July 5th, but for now something different. A calm before the storm perhaps.
Kelly Shaefer & Friends is the new site where I will post all of these new collabs with piano players, sax and cello players and all my friends who enjoy writing music of many different colors. I do plan on making an albums worth of material in 2012 that will be a "Kelly" record, and it will be all over the place style-wise."

After 17 years, the wait is finally over... Atheist are set to enter LedBelly recording studios in Atlanta, GA on July 5th to lay the tracks down on their long-awaited, yet untitled, fourth studio album. Engineering the recording session will be Matt Washburn. Additionally, the band have secured the services of one of metal's most significant talents of the past decade, Jason Suecof (Trivium, Chimaira, DevilDriver and many others), to handle the mixing of what promises to be a modern classic from the pioneers of technical metal.
"I can't believe we are about to record this album finally", vocalist Kelly Shaefer states. "We have been working our asses off for a year, and have taken great strides to make this the record we, as fans, would want to hear from Atheist. It's ferocious, intelligent, and dead balls heavy as shit! When people hear this they're going to say, 'It's Atheist!'"
"We are also honored and totally stoked to have Jason be a part of this album with us" says drummer Steve Flynn. "He went to great lengths to make this happen for us, and we are grateful. We anticipate collectively taking extreme metal to new places. Jason has quickly become one of the most sought-after engineers/producers in the industry, and we're excited to be working with him. He truly understands the legacy of the Florida Death Metal scene, and the importance of this record. We're confident that Jason will deliver an absolutely monster production. Additionally, we DO realize that the record has taken a long time to create. However, there are so many twists and turns in the average Atheist song, and we felt like it was very important to have enough killer material written so as to make it the most interesting record we have ever created. We wanted to make sure we took the next logical step in the evolution of our music. According to the critics out there, it's a tall - almost impossible - order. However, we feel like we have done it."
"Our late and great friend and foundational element of the Atheist sound, Roger Patterson, was always with us in spirit in the process of writing" adds Shaefer. "In fact, that frantic, technical Patterson spirit has come shining through once more in the form of Jonathan Thompson, our newest guitar player. "JT" is a young-spirited multi-talented player - he also plays bass for Flynn's band Gnostic. As long-time Atheist fans, JT and Chris Baker understand what Atheist is at its core and what the fans expect. Both have proven to be invaluable in bringing out that classic Atheist sound and have been instrumental the course of writing this long-awaited record."
