Norwegian thrash/death metal band Pica Fierce won the "Norwegian Wacken Metal Battle" final this past Friday night (May 9). The competition was held in Trondheim and featured five of the most promising bands in the Norwegian metal scene today. The winner's prize is a slot at this year's Wacken Open Air festival which is being held July 31 - August 2 in Wacken, Germany.

Pica Fierce posted the following retrospect:

"We had a lotta fun and we will sure do our best to kick ass - representing the Norwegian underground metal-scene in the international finale of Wacken Metal Battle. A huge thanks goes to the jury, and Zone for giving us this great opportunity!"

Check out the winners at: http://www.zone-home.net

Pica Fierce's self-titled debut album, was mixed at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation etc.) in Sweden. The album was released in Norway last November.

As always, songs can be checked out at the band's MySpace page.

Bolt Thrower have posted the following message:

"Thanks a lot to the 17,484 people who voted in the poll, it was very much appreciated! [Poll Results]

As you know, this time we decided not to decline the Wacken Open Air offer as usual, but to have a poll and hear your views on it firsthand, before making our decision. Obviously we realised that a lot of people who would be voting would not necessarily be into Bolt Thrower, but we were very interested in the comments you would send. In the end we received hundreds of comments, and the huge majority confirmed what we were already thinking, that WOA 2008 is not the right festival for Bolt Thrower.

We would like to thank the WOA organisers for their very unique offer and wish them every success, and for those of you going to WOA 2008, and who voted in favour of us playing there, we hope you have a great weekend.

We will soon be deciding and confirming which festival Bolt Thrower will be playing next summer. Thanks again to all of you who participated in the poll."

UK Death Metal steamrollers Bolt Thrower have posted the following message:

"As most of you probably know, Bolt Thrower don't like to play festivals, but as a lot of you want to see us playing festivals, we try and play at least one festival a year. After receiving numerous offers, we now have to choose which festival to play next Summer, and would like you to help us decide.

As BT are not financially driven, the fee is pretty irrelevant, as is whether we play to 1000 people or 100,000. Our main requirement would be to have our usual merchandise / meet and greet booth, with no price restrictions.

Wacken Open Air festival have asked us again to play next Summer, and the date would fit in with the gap in our planned recording and mixing schedule for next year. A lot of you have asked us to play Wacken over the years, and a lot of you have advised us not to play it, for various reasons.

So now, we would like you to help us decide by taking part in the following poll.

Poll: Would you like to see Bolt Thrower play the Wacken Open Air festival?

We'd really like to hear your opinions, so please vote... "

Carcass are the latest band to be confirmed for Wacken Open Air 2008, this is how the band commented:

"Well, they said it would never happen. In fact I said it would never happen. Then I noticed no one pays attention to what I say anyway and I sounded like an idiot...

Summer 2008 will be the twentieth anniversary since the release of Carcass' first studio album. It will be fourteen years since we last played live. We've decided to exhume the old corpse next Summer at Wacken. The timing is purely coincidental - it's been a long journey to get to this point where myself, Bill Steer and Mike Amott have enough common desire again to make it possible. We're finally conceding to the demand that seems to be at an all time high and doesn't appear to be going away any time soon. Any past reasons we may have had for not wanting to do it, or thinking it was impossible, have simply dissipated in the face of overwhelming interest in us performing THOSE riffs for a generation of believers who never had the opportunity back in the day. We could say we're doing it for 'the kids' - but fuck that ! We're doing it 'cos it will be fun again to play the classic Carcass tunes !! Of course it would seem inappropriate for us to contemplate to do this without Ken Owen, but I assure you he'll be there, and we'll push some sticks in his hands and make him play, plus we'll have a killer drummer to sit in and play HIS parts.

Myself Jeff Walker on bass and vocals, "the semi-legendary" Bill Steer and Mike Amott on lead guitar and Daniel Erlandsson, filling in for Ken on drums, look forwards to mutilating your hearing.

And if we don't do it ? Who else will overshadow the Led Zeppelin reunion ?

Ha !

Prepare to rot and roll."
