Diablo Swing Orchestra - Drummer Quits, Ex-Therion Member Steps In

Andreas Halvardsson has decided to step down as the drummer of Diablo Swing Orchestra due to personal reasons. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"We wish Andreas the best in his future musical endeavors. The good news is that we have found a replacement and would like to say welcome to Petter Karlsson (ex-Therion, Holocoaster) as a full time member of Diablo Swing Orchestra. We've only had one rehearsal together so far but we were all blown away by his drumming so check him out on his MySpace. Petter is also a skilled songwriter so it will be interesting to see what he can add to the already twisted process of making a Diablo Swing Orchestra song.

We are now rehearsing to get ready for touring later this year, new songs are also in the making and pre-production will probably start in the winter. Hope to see you on the road."

(Also thank to BudDa)

Ascendance Records press release

Here's the cover art for the upcoming Diablo Swing Orchestra album "Sing-Along Songs For The Damned And Delirious", out in Europe on the 21st September. It was made by the acclaimed Swedish illustrator Peter Bergting, most notable for his work with the graphic novel Gängkrig which is a #1 bestseller in Sweden right now.

The album will come in two editions for the stores. The "normal" edition will be a 4-panel digipac containing the CD and a 12 page booklet and a "special" edition, limited to just 2000 copies, in a gorgeous 8 panel digipac containing the CD, a 12 page booklet and a Bonus DVD featuring all sorts of goodies like live footage, behind the scenes, photo albums and whatever else can be crammed in!

A "very special" edition will be available directly from Ascendance by mail order only, with an individually numbered band logo Dog Tag pendant, a set of postcards and a vinyl sticker included with the CD/DVD version. This will be stricly limited to 300 copies and details for pre-order will be on the Ascendance Myspace soon.

Having now heard the full album we can assure you that old fans of the band will not be disappointed at all. In short: You're going to love it!

As previously announced the band will be playing a launch party show in London on October 2nd at the Purple Turtle, Camden. The venue has a limited capacity and tickets are selling fast! I know it seems a long time away but I suggest you get your tickets sooner rather than later to avoid potential disappointment.

Tickets are available in advance from Seetickets. Alternatively you can avoid postage costs and booking fees by buying directly from us at this location. We won't be issuing physical tickets, but we'll keep your name(s) at the door for when you arrive.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sign To Ascendance Records

Official press release

Ascendance Records is hugely proud to announce the signing of Diablo Swing Orchestra to a worldwide deal.

The unique genre-hopping Swedish sextet has already garnered an ever-growing army of fans on the strength of their self-released debut "The Butcher's Ballroom" (later licensed to Candlelight Records in Europe and Sonic Cathedral in the US) and their European festival perfomances including Metal Female Voices Fest and Summer Breeze.

The new album "Sing-Along Songs For The Damned & Delirious" is tentetively scheduled for a September release. As well as the normal release we will also be producing a strictly limited and numbered boxed version, available by direct mail order only. It will feature an exclusive DVD, a set of postcards, a pewter pendant and a sticker all in an embossed tin box. Full details will be made available closer to release.

The album will be recorded at In Flames studio in Gothenburg under the supervision of producer Roberto Laghi who, besides his work on the latest In Flames effort, has also worked with the likes of Sonic Syndicate, Mustasch and Hardcore Superstar. Recordings will commence on April 6th and will be finished on May 1st. Mixing will be done between the 1st and 12th of June. The band will be posting a studio report at the end of each week on their MySpace site so that you can follow how the recordings are progressing.

The band say that fans of "The Butcher's Ballroom" will recognize the D:S:O sound but it has developed into something even more playful and at times far more aggressive than before.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - New Album Next Year

D:S:O are busy working on new material. The following blog was posted on their MySpace page:

"Well it's been a while since the gig but we'd like to thank all the people who came to the party tent and danced at Summer Breeze. We really had an awesome time during the short but intense set. The gig was the best one we have had so far. Some photos are up at our gallery, more will come.

The song "Subconscious" that Annlouice recorded with Oceans Of Sadness is posted in all it's beauty on their myspace. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/oceansofsadness!!

Regarding the next album we now have 13 songs that we think will end up on the album. Some of the working titles are: "The Vodka Inferno" (which we have played live a couple of times now), "The Tapdancer's Dilemma", "Stratosphere Serenade", "Lucy Fears The Morning Star" & "Nicotine Cathedrals".

All in all we can promise a more playful album with perhaps a little more aggressive-sounding songs. Some notes on the new songs are that we make more use of brass instruments than on the previous album. Some songs will also feature a male opera singer (we'll reveal names later) and they will be sung in English, Russian, French and italian.

Details regarding studio and what label who will release the album is yet to be finalized but it will probably be sorted out during the upcoming month. Pre-production will continue during the autumn and we'll hit the studio around jan-feb of 2009. We'll keep the live gigs to a minumum during this period to focus on the next album. And even though the release is some time away we can actually promise that if you liked the first album it WILL be worth the wait."

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Working On New Material

Diablo Swing Orchestra have posted the following update on the band's MySpace page:

"Hi there, here are some news what's happening in the world of d:s:o:

We have about 7-8 new songs in various stages of completion and we are really happy with how the songs are sounding so far.
It's always hard to say how they will turn out in the end but so far they can be described as more "detailed" in lack of a better word. All the ingrediences from the first album will still be present and some new ones such as gospel, tango and russian folk music will also make an apperance. Furthermore the arrangements will be more thought-through and we're writing with a clearer idea how we can go about in the studio to make it as awesome as possible. We also feel as the cello has really found it's place through the more well-crafted arrangements and is really allowed to shine, so everybody can expect some really cool cello riffs.;) This time around we'll also have the chance to play some of the songs live before we go into the studio and get them onto tape.

We only have rough working titles for 2 of the songs yet and they are "The vodka inferno" and "Stratosphere serenade".

The plan is to start recording some demos in September - Oktober. When the actual recording sessions will start for the next record is not yet determined but we're hoping for somewhere around april-may 2008.

And even though it's risky to announce anything before it's 100% we'll stick our neck out and say that chances are good that d:s:o will cause some mayhem in Germany in September. More news on this and other gigs soon. The only confirmed gig for now is Progpower UK 3 on the 29th of March 2008.

The album was released as planned in Russia through MALS and the CIT states on the 26th of June and the feedback seems to be good so far, we'll post any reviews and such when we have them. Other than that we are eagerly awaiting the European re-release of the album on the 13th of August through Candlelight. We have been getting quite a lot of emails asking where to buy the album that we have to turn down or direct to US online shops since we right now are all sold out of the first print.

We would also like to say a big thank you to everybody who sends messages, emails, letters and shows their support in general. We have been overwhelmed by how well the first record has been recieved and we are working hard as hell so you will not be dissapointed by our second effort.
