Pretence - New Band Of Former The Old Dead Tree Members

After parting ways with The Old Dead Tree in 2006, guitarist Nicolas Chevrollier said: "I will always love playing, listening to, and living music..." As guitarist and songwriter having highly contributed to the artistic orientation of the band, he rapidly felt the needs to pursue his own dreams again with a new project.

He naturally found that his long-time friend and bass player Vincent Danhier could share his vision. Things became more serious after the split-up of The Old Dead Tree in November last year, and the duo knew they would need a fuller line-up to move the band up and forward. So Olivier (also involved in thrash metal act Sinn) was rapidly enlisted to their ranks as drummer. Then they asked guitarist Gilles (now also responsible for death core riffing with Jarell) to bring his talent, as his playing style is a perfect match. When it came down to finding a vocalist, the name of Guillaume popped up. The band knew that his skills in singing with Dustbowl (heavy cold rock) were what the new composings screamed for... Luckily, he agreed to join, and Pretence has found its final form in February, 2010.

The music of Pretence can be described as some kind of dark melodic metal with wide influences like Paradise Lost, Katatonia, Slayer, Tool...

After only 7 months of writing and rehearsing together, the band is now ready to enter the studio! The recording process of the debut album will be achieved by the end of the year... Stay tuned for updates.

The band's MySpace is currently still under construction.

The Old Dead Tree - Call It Quits

Season Of Mist press release

We are sorry to announce French goth metallers The Old Dead Tree decided to call it quits. Here is frontman Manuel's official statement:

"The Old Dead Tree is no more.

I wish I never had to write those words, but nothing is forever. These last few months, some disagreements started to grow within the band, regarding commitment and musical direction in the making of our fourth album. Those differences of opinions soon turned out to be a dead-end problem and led me to make the decision of ending the band's activities.

In twelve years of existence, The Old Dead Tree had its share of line-up changes. Of course, each of them has been an improvement, but they were also painful losses. And I do not want to face that kind of loss again. Be that as it may, I am still extremely proud of the work we have achieved and I want to thank all the people without whom nothing would have been possible: past and present band members with whom I learnt so much and had amazing times, our wonderful crew, our label Season of Mist, our tour booker K Productions, and especially the fans who supported us and encouraged us to go forwards. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours. This is now farewell."

Season of Mist thanks The Old Dead Tree for having created three great albums and wish its members good luck for the future. So long, guys!

The Old Dead Tree - New Drummer Revealed

The Old Dead Tree have announced the following news:

"The search is over, and a new drummer has now joined the band. The level of competition and skills among the few drummers who remained at the top of the crop was extremely high, but this guy logically outplayed everyone in the end.

Indeed, we are very happy to announce that after having worked with us as a session musician for about six months now, Raphaël has decided to join The Old Dead Tree as a full time member! For those who aren't familiar with him yet, Raphaël is the drummer of the french symphonic metal band Penumbra. As a professional musician, he is also involved in others projects and various music styles. If you want to find out more about Raphaël, you can check his MySpace.

To the drummers we met: Again, we want to thank you all for offering your services and wish you all the best for the future!"

The Old Dead Tree - Part Ways With Drummer

As posted on the official website:

Foued Moukid has stepped down from his drums wielding duties after 3 years in The Old Dead Tree. Foued has decided to devote himself to his other band Arkan in "full-time" mode, and also to others personal private projects.
"We had been working in this band together for almost 3 years and we shared some unforgettable experiences together all over Europe. We will obviously remain friends and this "break up" has been on very good terms from both sides. We would like to thank our friend and wish him the best of luck with his future ventures!"
Please note that all gigs scheduled - except Portugal - are still confirmed! A session drummer - Raphaël Antheaume- will replace Foued until his successor has been found.

Due to Foued Moukid's decision to leave the band, The Old Dead Tree is now looking for a new drummer.
If you are interested, please write to info@theolddeadtree.com with details about yourself, like your musical influences, bands you are/were involved in, live and studio experiences, etc, and of course the reason why you would like to join the band.
All information about the auditions will be given in due time once The Old Dead Tree has received your e-mail and details.
