ETHS - Talent Show Sensation Announced As New Singer
From TV to reality. Surprisingly, French metallers ETHS have presented their new vocalist, named Rachel Aspe. However, Rachel is not unknown as she made her international debut on prime time television as part of "La France A Un Incroyable Talent" (the French equivalent/franchise of "America's Got Talent") where she showed off her growls which stunned the pop judges and crowd before going viral and being seen by millions of people online. She will replace the former vocalist Candice Clot which left for personal reasons and was in the band for nearly 15 years.

Rachel commented on joining the band, saying: "I'm really proud to be a part of ETHS. I've been a fan of the band for many years, and it's a great honor for me to sing songs I have been listening to for such a long time."
Regarding the new band member, ETHS stated: "We're pleased to welcome Rachel to the band. She's great and has an awesome voice! Thanks a lot to Virginie and Nelly for filling in on stage during the last few months. Now a new chapter is beginning for ETHS. We're energized and looking forward to our upcoming shows with Rachel. See you on the road!"
This newer version of ETHS announced their first shows with Rachel on vocals. Dates include shows in France and Switzerland throughout April, May, and June. More dates are forthcoming, and confirmed dates are as follows:
April 10th - Le Ninkasi Kao, Lyon
April 13th - MJC Picaud / La Tangente, Cannes
May 2nd - Secret Place, Montpellier
May 3rd - Balelec Festival, Lausanne
June 1st - Conservatoire Henri Dutilleux, Clamart
June 29th - Festiz, Tournus

I never understood why ETHS were that big anyway. Well, seems like it's Kells' time to step out of their shadow now. Or the other way round: with that sorry excuse of a growler ETHS will probably be stepping into Kells' shadow.

Also for female extreme vocals it's really bad. She makes Angela Gossow sound like a frigging genius. And that is saying a lot.

Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 04.04.2013 at 00:31 Agreed. Although I think Angela's vocals were great on the first couple of albums, since "Doomsday Machine" her growls have been sub-par. However, even Angela's current vocals are on a different, superior level of class when compared to the woman in this video... it seems to me like the only reason she got the job was to give the band way more exposure in the public eye. It's definitely not because her death growls are particularly good, as they are very amateurish sounding.

I dunno. I happen to have a bit of endearment for strained and "human-gone-tortured-zombie-psycho" sounding extreme vocals in male growlers/screamers (Matti Karki comes to mind)...and if she can keep it up without dying; it could be a unique and acquired taste for those that can apply that thinking to a female. I see what you are saying though- the fact that she was on a talent show attempting to impress does hint that that is her limit. I'm on the fence...

Runhils Gammelsaetter, Corinne v.d. Brandt, Rachel Heyzer, Dana Duffey, Doomed Warrior (no idea what her real name is), Sharon Bascovsky are six that immediately srping to mind who are vastly superior to Angela Gossow. Problem though is that most people have never heard Thorr's Hammer, Acrostichon, Infinited Hate/Occult/Pathology/Temple/Sinsiter (with Rachel on vocals), Mythic/Demonic CHrist, INto Darkness, Derketa.
