Slayer - Sign To Nuclear Blast, Debut New Song

Slayer start off the day with big news. First, last night at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Slayer surprised the capacity crowd with an unannounced performance, kicking off the show with a three-song set that included the global premiere of "Implode," the band's first new studio recording in five years. "Implode" can now be downloaded at Slayer's website provided you give your email address or sign up with your Facebook account. The band also signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast. A new Slayer song! Unexpected but are you happy with the final result?

Recorded earlier this month at Henson Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Terry Date and co-produced by Greg Fidelman, "Implode" is now available as a free download as a "thank you" to the band's fans for their continued support. As Kerry King put it, "you have been waiting for us, now we are delivering for you." Registered members of Slayer's fan club were sent an email right around midnight giving them the link to the song and a chance to hear it before it was made public.

Later this year, Slayer will begin recording a new album, tentatively set for an early 2015 release date. The album will make Slayer history as it will be released on Nuclear Blast Records through the band's own label imprint, closing out a 28-year relationship with Rick Rubin and American Recordings. All future recordings on the band's label imprint will be released worldwide exclusively through Nuclear Blast.

Tom Araya says: "Rick has played a huge role in our career, we've made some great albums with him. But today is a new day, record companies don't play the kind of role they once did, and we really like the idea of going out on our own, connecting directly with our fans, and Nuclear Blast is fired up about taking on that challenge with us."

Added Nuclear Blast label manager Gerardo Martinez: "The prospect of helping Slayer take a leading role in the creative process surrounding their releases, projects and other cross-promotional opportunities is the ultimate honor for me, a metalhead who grew up in Los Angeles listening to Slayer. Nowhere in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Nuclear Blast would be making history alongside one of the best bands in metal."

Slayer - Tom Araya/vocals, bass, Kerry King/guitar, drummer Paul Bostaph, and Gary Holt who continues to stand in for the band's founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman - will spend the next few months on the road touring major North American and European festivals as well as headlining dates, but the band is expected to be back in the studio in the fall to record the rest of the new album.

I like it. The overall sound is a bit unclear and guitars sound weird. But I like it.

The song is quite decent.

Slayer can do whatever they want, no matter how anyone regrets that Jeff is dead. Don't tell them to quit, because it's none of your business. 2 out of 4 original members, 3 out of 4 long time members. Slayer is still Slayer.

True enough, plenty of bands exist with zero original members after all.

Artisticaly speaking they've been going down ever since Seasons In The Abyss. The fact that they have 2 less founding members might not change that much anyway. They will put out decent offerings but nothing overwhelming.

Exactly, they haven't been worth their name for a long while now so it really makes little difference to me.

I didn't listen to the song yet, I'll save my first taste of modern Slayer-cover-band Slayer for when the album comes out. Hard to get even remotely excited for an album with that lineup on Nuclear Blast though...

"Slayer" will probably be a decent money machine for a few years, but it would be nice if they just called it quits.

Why they have pathetic perception that if band's real member die they should automatically quit? Can't they exist with new members and create strong fucking music?

It doesn't have to do with any of user here, I'm saying in context of general consensus of different forums. Look at Slayer's FB, whiners analing Slayer to quit because Jeff is no more(in some cases Dave Lombardo)

Stop bullshitting. As of song, I'll get back soon.

Guys come on. From a Slayer die-hard-fans we still want more. Though Slayer would never be the same without Jeff. We do still want more.

Do anyone was a link where a we could watch Slayer with Gary Holt as their guitarist?

Some are being rather irrational about this whole thing that they just can't see how amazing their return is after all the stuff that happened last year, maybe this isn't meant for everybody to enjoy but i'm high as fuck right now on this glorious moment

I like it. The recording is much better than World Painted Blood. The lyrics are "evil". The solos sound good. The rhythms are really tight. And it's finally a Slayer album with Bostaph that isn't trying really super hard to adapt to a trend or fix something that isn't broken.

Like the production other than the too loud snare, slow beginning isn"t that interesting, but after that as soon as they speed up they are great again

Did gary write any riffs or solos for this song? i cant hear his trademark sound except on 1 or 2 riffs, whats the point of having him in slayer if he cant show off? hes the only reason why i would even bother listening to a new slayer album

Slayer is dead.

As they have been for 18 years (with the exclusion of Undisputed Attitude)
However, I am curious why some people seem so disappointed with this. It doesn't seem too far off the standard of quality set by their last album (but really, that's someone who last listened to it 4 years ago speaking).

You got an option.

If you directly download from official link, then win zip to drop in(if you're on Mobile data plan ignore it as it might charge extra mobile data). Best thing is to download mp3 file. It might be somewhere.

I downloaded the mp3 and listening to it.

I like the opening riff. Sounds a little generic when things speed up though. Better than anything off "World Painted Blood" imo. If Gary Holt has a big role in the writing process and its not just Kerry King. It just may be surprisingly good. Gary doesn't get enough credit as a player. He has come up with great riff after riff and is by far a more technically skilled lead. That could bring in an element Slayer hasn't ever had before. Will know the answer when the album comes out.

Absolutely agree, I'm a great Slayer fan and was very doubtful about a future without Jeff, but with this new song I'm very optimistic.

I'll miss Jeff anyway...
