Ozzy Osbourne - To Receive Global Icon Award At 2014 MTV EMA

After the Grammy that Black Sabbath received earlier this year, Ozzy Osbourne is getting his hands on another award, this time from MTV. The 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards will honor Ozzy Osbourne with the Global Icon Award. It's the first time it will go to a metal artist following Bon Jovi in 2010, Queen in 2011, Whitney Houston in 2012 and Eminem in 2013.

On Sunday, November 9th, the legendary Black Sabbath frontman will receive top honors at MTV's annual celebration, broadcast live from the SSE Hydro arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

The EMA will air on MTV channels worldwide, and the U.S. telecast will kick off live from Miami at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT. Osbourne, whose Memoirs Of A Madman compilation album will be released October 14th, is the fifth-ever recipient of the Global Icon Award.

And why is MTV giving Ozzy Osbourne this award? Here are their reasons:

  • Black Sabbath, the seminal metal band Ozzy Osbourne co-founded in the '60s, released their self-titled debut album in 1970;
  • Since then, Ozzy has sold more than 120-million albums worldwide as a member of the group and as a solo artist;
  • He's been inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame;
  • And won three Grammys;
  • Ozzy's hugely influential career continues this Tuesday with the release of Memoirs Of A Madman;
  • Not to mention, he starred in one of the very first celebrity reality TV shows, "The Osbournes," which aired from 2002 to 2005.
