Magnum - Keyboardist Quits
British progressive rock legends Magnum are facing a line-up change. Their keyboardist Mark Stanway has decided to quit the band after 36 years in the middle of a tour.
He writes: "I'm genuinely glad Magnum's show went well in Dublin for all the wonderful Magnum supporters, It was never in my agenda to upset anyone. However, there has been much speculation amongst many of you which is totally understandable and will say at this stage that, having been sent recordings and audio links from last night's Dublin show, can personally confirm that at least you were listening to MY playing, so I was sort of there! And suspect the same will be for tonight and Edinburgh. The other point I should like to make clear is that, my decision to leave was not in any way pre-conceived! I had even entered dates for Magnum festivals and shows scheduled for next year into my diary.
"There are some things that I believe we are entitled to keep private, after all, we are talking about 36 years together. I am so touched (and I mean extremely touched to the point of being very emotional) by over 1000 well wishes already received and not one real negative remark at all, for that, I cannot begin to explain how wonderful that makes me feel during what is one of the most saddest times of my life. I will not, certainly at this stage, add any more to this, which I am sure the majority of you will respect as my prerogative and feel that remaining professional about all of this is the healthy way forward for all of us, but felt some sort of statement was so deserved to such wonderful people and loyal supporters and therefore hope this helps a little and inadvertently also reveals that there are no health issues either, So I will say cheerio for now and hope you enjoy the shows, I again firmly wish the band all the best for the future. Trusting this helps a little, once again, most sincerely, Mark Stanway."
