Vektor - Three Members Leave, Band To Continue

The end of the year hasn't been kind to thrashers Vektor. After releasing the excellent Terminal Redux album this year, three members of the band, guitarist Erik Nelson, drummer Blake Anderson and bassist Frank Chin have quit the group, leaving guitarist/vocalist and founding member David DiSanto all to himself. The frontman vows to continue.

David DiSanto wrote on the band's Facebook page: "I apologize to anyone who was concerned about the post from earlier today. Vektor is not stopping. I started writing Vektor songs in 1999 and I'm still writing Vektor songs. As long as I live, Vektor will not die. I appreciate everything that Blake, Frank, and Erik have done to help this ship take off. I also appreciate all of my band mates before them: Willy, Pablo, Adam, Mike, and Kian. See you on the road! Dave."

Prior to that, this message was posted online and since then been deleted: "Greetings Vektonauts. With sadness we must inform you that we, Blake, Frank, and Erik, are all departing from Vektor effective immediately. It has been a completely incredible 10-ish years that has brought us all around the world and introduced us to so many super generous, passionate, friendly people and produced three albums of which we are extremely proud. Seeing the reception for Terminal Redux in particular after all of the hard work put into it has been very humbling. Sadly we've reached a point where we can't continue with the working arrangement we have, for a number of reasons that we find unnecessary to discuss publicly. There's no big story or drama, people and personalities simply change and drift apart and we've reached our limit.

"The three of us are lifer musicians and will continue to be. You'll be seeing us in other contexts, other bands, recordings, tours, and more. Our time in Vektor has been a major part of our lives and parting with that will be a serious adjustment, but ultimately we're excited to see other new ways we can put our ideas to use. We are -hugely- grateful to everyone that came out to shows, picked up merch, listened to the music, showed us a great time and kept us going. We accomplished more than we ever thought was possible when we joined and we hope you'll stay tuned for what we do next - you have certainly not seen the last of us.

"We don't know if this means Dave will seek new members and continue Vektor or not, that is for him to decide and announce in his own time. Given that it's the holidays and the future of the band is out of our hands, we'd appreciate some space for the time being as we enjoy time with friends and family (please don't message our personal pages about it, we won't reply). All the best and we'll see you down the road. Blake, Frank, and Erik.
"

Vektor is basically a one man band so this doesn't surprise me. Maybe they'll improve their live performance with this change of formation, I heard they are quite underwhelming.

Yeah no drama ATM. Just have to wait until we see the three members start writing up for the next Vektor album.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think Dave is the most replaceable member. His vocals aren't that great. I think if the other three stick together and get someone like Proscriptor or Ashmedi to take his place they could even top Terminal Redux.

According to him
It's nice that they're being rather mature with no whiny, accusatory bullshit on social media, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if that's actually what has gone on behind closed doors and they're just not publicizing that information

Personal differences and all, but it's quite worrying to have this setback, especially for a band who is really fronting technical thrash right now. Most of these jumps don't work out at all, but there is always hope... Maybe proves himself to be as stubborn as Mustaine, which may be very fortunate just now

That's a shame! I do too suspect that Dave is the main songwriter, but the other 3 were very good musicians. I hope he will find equally talented replacements, then there is a chance we will have more good Vektor albums.

Actually it's David, the only guy that didn't leave. He even recorded all guitars and bass himself, I think he said on the album thread (yeah, he has a MS user).
Vektor will probably remain a benevolent dictatorship like Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Pain Of Salvation, etc.

I had heard that, but songwriting doesn't always translate to accomplished playing of instruments. However...

If this is the case, then I am just plain wrong. Either way, I'd like to hear more of this. They are a breath of fresh air for the genre.

To clear up some of the speculation on songwriting and recording duties in Vektor:

Dave writes 100% of the riffs and lyrics for all Vektor songs. For any post-Demolition song the three other members wrote their own parts. I'm less sure about who deserves credit for the Nucleus/Demolition era stuff, but all performances on the three studio albums are by the individual musicians.

Basically, Dave is Vektor. He'll regroup, find a new crew, and eventually write another Vektor album. It'll sound like Vektor and probably be rad. How long this will take and how rad it will sound is up in the air. It took Dave over 4 years to write Terminal Redux, not exactly an encouraging pace. With this major lineup disruption I think the next will take even longer. The level of talent he can attract remains to be seen.

Vektor doesn't have a record contract right now. A lot of people don't realize that they never actually signed with Earache. They signed a 3-record deal back in 2008 with Heavy Artillery Records who was purchased by Earache in 2012. Terminal Redux is the third record. It'll be interesting to see where Dave lands.

I won't speak to the specific issues causing this split because I've only heard one side of it and it's really none of my business but I most likely would have quit as well.

The results of dealing with the worst label in the world..., the owner (Digby) of this label had problems with Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Decapitated, Century Media and most of his business partners in the past..., and now he is an alone stupid old man, better off letting go his business like Candlelight Records.
