Amon Amarth - Complete Work On New Album

Swedish veterans Amon Amarth have completed work on their next studio album, the follow-up to 2016' Jomsviking. The outing was tracked at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, California with producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour) and is expected to hit streets this spring through Metal Blade Records. Stay tuned for more details.

In the recent interview with Revolver Magazine, frontman Johan Hegg had the following to say about the new record: "With the last record, Jomsviking, I wrote a complete fucking movie script and we turned it into an album. This time around, I didn't have any of those ideas but we also didn't want to do a concept thing, either. Jomsviking turned out so well, so if you then start working on another concept album and try to top that, it would almost be impossible - unless you have a really great story lined up that you can do that with. But I didn't, so it didn't make sense. I was a bit lazy on this one - I waited for the music to be done, so I could see where it would take me."

"I was a bit lazy on this one - I waited for the music to be done, so I could see where it would take me." Not the most exciting words of promotion
I just hope they pull out a more solid effort then the last 2.

Hmm... I have a feeling like it probably took him to writing lyrics about vikings smashing their enemies with battle axes.

I like how this update talks up Jomsviking way more than it does the new album! That said, with them not trying to push some narrative into the music the album will probably sound like Surtur Rising/Deceiver Of The Gods which im totally fine with.

I am out of ideas and had zero inspiration towards our next release. I was also forced by the producer to start writing.
On a side note, the new drummer isn't getting a dime from this.

You don't need to wait for this album. Just shuffle the last one and you'll have it.

Hey now, I crave catchy shit and I will not apologize for it!

Also, "First Kill" is maybe the greatest gym song in the world.

In the last 3 output, Joms probably is one of the weakest. Keeping my hopes low, if new record achieves half of "With Oden On Our Side", I think AA has done the job.

While I agree with a lot of the above comments I must admit its quite nice to see a truly honest update from a band about a new album rather than the usual marketing spiel like "THIS IS GOING TO BE OUR BEST ALBUM YET!!!!1111"

I know they will never sound like their debut, which was my favourite, but I hope they can take it a notch back to WOOOS instead of TOTTG and beyond...

I know it's very unlikely but crossing my fingers!

I like most of their albums even though the first one now sounds a bit too raw imo. Yet Jomsviking was such a f*cking letdown ! Up to mid album it sounded like tired Amon Amarth (and that awful duo with Doro's vocalist !). I don't have many expectations but I used to like them a lot and wish to like them again soon (or not !).
