Cemetary - Reformed, Ink Deal With Atomic Fire Records

The Swedish ensemble Cemetary is back from the dead. The band's mastermind Mathias Lodmalm has decided to revive the band and concurrently announce the signing with Atomic Fire Records for the release of the new record, titled Come To Ruin.

Mathias Lodmalm comments: ''After several decades in the wilderness, Cemetary finally arrive home at Atomic Fire Records. For better or for worse, I have always gone my own way and rolled the bones as they may. Roughly a decade ago, I started crafting a sound that came to be the upcoming album Come To Ruin. Working with a label was never a thought, quite the opposite. But when I heard the rumblings from Donzdorf, it pulled me in, and what I saw was the finest team in metal today. To finally be able to work with people as passionate as myself is a true blessing. I am forever grateful. Old titles will come back to life with the highest production values possible. Not only one, but two new albums are being prepared to usher in the apocalypse with a ferocity never before heard from the band. This has been a long time coming - plans are best laid. Thanks to all who patiently waited and kept Cemetary alive by tuning into the sound," enthuses Lodmalm.

Atomic Fire Records co-founder/A&R Markus Wosgien says: "It was in 1993 when I discovered Cemetary with their second album, Godless Beauty, which guided me into another world, similar as Tiamat (Clouds) and Paradise Lost (Shades Of God) did the year before. But Cemetary were different, even more intense and with more "corners and edges." Songs like "And Julie Is No More" and "By My Own Hand" stuck in my head and I can repeat every second even three decades later.

"Some months ago, Lake Of Tears mastermind Daniel Brennare introduced me to Mathias Lodmalm and we started to talk about the past and future. So that's why we kick off our cooperation with beautiful re-issues of their '90s albums, starting with An Evil Shade Of Grey and my all-time favorite, Godless Beauty, including individual interviews and new graphics. Mathias is also in the final steps of a brand-new Cemetary album and the demos we heard took us back to the band's origin and breathe the mood of those first two cult records."

Wow indeed. That is some unexpected news to me. Had you asked me beforehand I guess I would have said something like, 90 percent certain they will never come back.
I better dont expect anything from this album though.

My thoughts exactly.
However, my second thought was "Will Redel comment on this before I find the time?"

Markus Wosgien's mention of "And Julie Is No More" and "By My Own Hand" sent a pleasant shiver down my spine...

My thoughts exactly -- almost, because I was sure Starvynth would not leave a comment here because he basically lost interest in this band after the ingenius Godless Beauty.

You're not entirely wrong about that - I probably would have completely ignored a similar press release shortly after The Beast Divine and the atrocious Phantasma. But if someone like Mathias Lodmalm had almost 20 years of time and enough distance to think about all the garbage that followed his masterpiece, then there's at least a small glimmer of hope that he won't unleash "Phantasma Devine" or anything like that on his last remaining 5 fans.

If you don't like most of their (his) albums, then maybe this is not the band for you. Cemetary is in my top 3 bands and everything they did is fantastic, every album is unique, they changed my life. I play all of their albums regularly. No one ever matched the sound and atmosphere of "Last Confessions", that is always the first thing I play on any new sound equipment, since it came out.

This is no news for me, but best news since 2005.
