Portuguese drummer Bruno Almeida, who played drums in Portuguese death/doom metal act Extreme Unction between 1995 and 1998, as well as in pagan folk metal crew Gwydion between 2000 and 2004, has passed away.

Extreme Unction commented: "It is with deep sadness that Extreme Unction announces that we are all the poorer this week. Tragically and unexpectedly, one of our members ceased to be amongst us. It feels unreal. Our dear Bruno Almeida who, for almost 20 years, had been a mate of ours in this musical adventure, has now departed leaving behind a void in all of us who were lucky enough to work with him and or partook his legacy. This is news no one wishes to share but there is no way around it. We have to face it, as we live on the threshold of Death.

"We are on the brink of re-editing all the band’s old stuff, namely our 1995 LP where our friend actively participated with his powerful drumming style. Unfortunately, he won’t be with us for the launch.

To you, "Castanho" (that’s the nickname he chose for himself and we fondly adopted), on behalf of the whole band (present and past members), we say our last goodbye. Farewell great Lusitanian warrior."
