In Mourning have very much been a model of consistency over their journey to date (so much so that I riffed off it in my previous two reviews of their albums), evolving their sound steadily over the years. The Immortal is not a completely radical reinvention of their style, but its one of the biggest leaps they’ve taken for an album to date.

The last time we had a 4-year gap between albums the result was...not up to par. Then there's the 2023 single "Broken Orbit" which was passable, but I wouldn't listen to it again.

Nevertheless, this is one of the most consistently solid bands out there and I can't say I'm not looking forward to this.

The first single is up. They're clearly trying out new things, but overall it's still pretty much In Mourning

Cornelius Althammer of Ahab is their new drummer and that makes me want to check this album out.

Not sure I understand what I'm listening to. The usual formula is there, the sound is great. A strong record, no doubt. Yet somehow I still suffered through it. It's like 5-10% better than their previous ones, but are the remaining 90-95% worth repeating. Not sure how to put it into words precisely

As surprising as it is, the album is actually pretty decent. I haven't liked almost anything post-Weight of Oceans but gave this one two spins in a row. North Star is an instant highlight for example, and some other tracks are really good too. Also, killer production, way better than on previous records.

I always struggled a wee bit with this band, I find them to be a more progressive version of Insomnium but slightly watered down in quality. However, I seem to be enjoying this album more than their last few, it might require more spins in the future but so far I like what hear, the lead guitars are good in particular, and it's certainly well crafted, that's for sure.

Wow, that would be exactly how I would describe the band. I knew of them since their first album but couldn't really get into most songs as they felt too progressive for my taste. But this one is more emotive, similar to Insomnium and has great guitars. I'm enjoying it quite a lot

These gentlemen just never miss. They are some of the best at weaving emotion into their riffs and this album showcases some of their best writing yet. Garden Of Storms has always been my favorite album from them but this release might have me rethinking that. The musicianship on display here is top notch and the mood of the record is sublime. I've stopped buying CDs but man do I want this in my collection.

This album didn't work for me. Honestly it just made me wish I was listening to Amorphis instead.

It didn't work for me either. But it didn't make wanna listen to Amorphis, it just made listen to something else (like the new Deftones or other new releases i'm trying to keep up with ).

Found it to be a bit underwhelming honestly. The songs are good but when it comes to melodeath I think I like songs made similar to 'the halo effect'.

These guys are always consistent. No less, no more. Once again a good album. 'As long as the.......' is my fav track.
