Frontman David DiSanto said, concerning their new concept album:
"There is a concept, but it will be a looser concept with more room to play with individual stories. The overall idea s that it is a prequel to Terminal Redux. It's about the star system of Alshain before it explodes. It takes place while the average size, Yellow star Alshain, starts growing and becoming a red giant. The inner planets start warming and the inhabitants start moving to the next habitable worlds by way of terraforming. They keep moving out to the next planet, moon, wherever they can until they reach the end of their solar system. They don't have the technology to move past to the next star system, so they come to terms with their existence on their last habitable world before their star explodes."
DiSanto goes on to provide more information on the songwriting process and which types of songs to expect:
"I started writing these songs in the darkest of those days before I went through my divorce, but I finished a lot of these songs after I reconnected with my friends and family. I went though a lot to get here, but I think it's worth it. I learned a lot about myself and other people, and I learned how to wait, be patient, and be humble. At this point in my life, I just want to create and not destroy. There can be good after something horrific. That's how my songwriting has changed. I have a broader perspective now.
There are some very somber songs on the new album, but there is also some of the most uplifting music I have ever written. I end the album on a positive note, and it is epic and joyful. I hope it can inspire people and give them hope when life gets hard.
...
"There are three songs on the next album with a "Collapse" style vibe. I like to think of those songs as being the Pink Floyd part of the album. They aren't totally representative of the whole album though. There is still a ton of thrash, and technicality though. It will be a massive album. The opening track is nearly 20 minutes long, and the closer track is over 15 minutes long. Throughout those songs and throughout the album, there is a huge array of emotions, complexity, ferocity, up, downs, and everything in between. I've always tried to write songs that take the listener on a journey, and I think this album does that more than any of our previous albums."
DiSanto also offered more details on the opening track:
"It is finished now, an it's just under 20 minutes! It is basically a roller coaster ride. It starts off with a dystopian heavy riff, gets right into thrashing for several minutes, builds into some Rush inspired chords, calms into a peaceful serenity, builds, gets into frenetic blackened thrash, then into more Rush inspired chords, and then ends with a thoughtful melody over some strange, jazzy chords. It was going to be my favorite song on he album until I wrote the losing song on the album. That one is probably my favorite song I've ever written."
Finally, DiSanto explained how Vektor are trying to find a new label:
"After being dropped from Century Media, it's been tough for me to even think about talking to labels. It just felt like "how many times can I get knocked down and keep getting up?" That's kind of where I'm at right now. I want to try and finish more of the album before we shop it around to labels. I feel like if the label hears the album, they will be more inclined to stick with us even if there is backlash. I would like to find a label who is very supportive. It seems like so much work trying to self-release. I remember when I used to mail off all our shirts, and I hated it haha. I can't imagine the logistics of dealing with vinyl, CDs, and everything else. I used to do that, but I'm too old to be that DIY anymore haha. Plus, we're on a larger scale than when I was handling all that in the early days. I think it's also about public perception at this point. It would look better if we were on a bigger label than if we were selling CDs out the back of my car haha. We'll be starting some label negotiations soon."
