Lately I have been listening to Ensiferum a lot. I have known about this band for a while but have never really given them a good listen. I have become so obsessed with this band now that I am starting to learn some of their songs on the guitar and playing along with the music. The only one that I have fully learned so far though is Guardians of Fate. Anyways, I have been trying to figure out which of the albums that I like the most. I think the conclusion I have come to is that I like their first self titled album the most. It is the one that I find myself playing on my iPod the most or putting into my CD player. I can't really describe why I like that one the best out of all of them, mainly because all of them are really damn great, but I was wondering what the rest of you Metal Stormers have to say on this topic.

Ensiferum - Ensiferum was the first metal album, I ever listened to - I instantly loved it. And the first time I for real listened to metal - after that, I dropped all other music (pop, techno all that stuff). Metal was now what I would listen to, everything else didn't "give" the same - I was about 12 years old or something. So Ensiferum has a special place in my heart =)

Probably Victory Songs, couldn't say exactly why, I guess its the one I listen to most frequently...Iron is almost equally as good, the self-titled one I never understood at all, never got why its so celebrated.

I love all three very passionately, very seldom does a day go by without one getting a listen...but I think I'm going to vote for Iron. I just find it to be a bit more dynamic with some greater peak moments in the album...singing along to LAI LAI HEI... But give me a month and I'd vote differently. =P

All three albums are indeed great, but Iron is my favorite. It just flows so well when listened to from start to finish, no weak points at all. Usually if I listen to this album, I have to replay it right after it finishes, its that damn good.

The only one I listened to entirely is Victory Songs, but Ensiferum is much better from what I heard. Lindros' voice is annoying on last album and the band lost most of its black metally atmosphere over the years. They sound more and more like Children of Bodom and less and less like Ensiferum... Some songs on their debut sound like Finntroll, especially the intro on Battle Song. Iron is great, too: Into the Battle is a furious anthem to mankill muhahaha! It sounds so much like Wintersun. In fact, I think Wintersun is a return to Ensiferum roots, and that's why they are so popular...

Hard to decide which one is better? In fact it's hard for me to choose between Ensiferum and Victory Songs. I didn't enjoy Iron as much as other two.. After all I vote for Victory Songs which I like it more, although I found two REALLY nice songs in Ensiferum, which were Battle Songs and Eternal Wait but in overall I think Victory Songs was much better than Ensiferum.

Hm, kinda difficult to choose one out of those. The difference is quite small between all albums. But since I like voting I voted for Iron...some pretty damn good songs are on it: Iron, Tales Of Revenge, Into Battle, Slayer Of Light...all great songs.

Very close between Iron and Self-titled but Iron wins it for me. The first album has a couple of fillers to the end of the album, while Iron has "Slayer of Light", "Tale of Revenge", "Lai Lai Hei", "Sword Chant" and of course... "Iron". The first album has my favourite song "Token of Time" and the epic "Windrider", yet like I said...as a whole the album kinda loses momentum later on. Victory Songs is actually their worst album by far, even the new album is better than that because it has some hints of the older sound here and there and lets face it - Jari beats Petri with rock, paper AND scissors so bringing back some of the old Ensiferum elements on the new album definitely pushes it beyond Victory Songs.

Victory Songs is my first Viking Metal album, and one of the first truly heavy metal albums I listened to. It helped pull me into the genre, so I've gotta give it the credit.

I really like the Ensiferum album the most, if only for the song "Token of Time", that song is so intoxicating.
