I still haven't gotten around to checking out RoutaSielu or Dawn Of Solace (but I really need to since I enjoy his other musical outputs so much), so I can't comment on whether or not this contains much of the style from either of those 2 bands. But I was a huge fan of Before The Dawn, and quite enjoyed Black Sun Aeon, and this is like a good mix of those 2 bands for sure, I'd say.
Definitely recommend it for anybody who is a fan of Tuomas Saukkonen already, and anybody else who may not be familiar with Tuomas, but is interested in good quality melodic death metal.

I loved the Dawn of Solace project, but I actually haven't heard much Before the Dawn. I'll have to check this out regardless, even though I'm not really into melodeath these days.

It's really good. It's not the typical Gothenburg-style of melodeath. I know there is also doom in this, but I'm not sure if there is enough to warrant adding a "Doom metal" tag to the profile or not. I'm not really a doomster, it's only a recent acquisition of taste for me, and I still suck at properly differentiating it.

Not that his melodies are particularly good for the most part, but a lot of the time there's too much monotonous vocals messing up the dynamics. "Routa Pt. 2" and "Whiteout" is where he got it right though.

I found most of the album a good work. I liked the taste that he tried to make, liked many riffs and the way they blend and Mika never dissapoints when in his works. So thumps up from me

Album is good but not perfect...Not as Before The Dawn or Black Sun Aeon.

I'd say 70% BSA and 30% BtD... That's why I don't love it, but it did have some great moments

Well then Tuomas hit his mark, because that's what he was going for.

Just listening to the start. I really love the intro to The Hunt. So prettiful and fairly epic sounding.

Never a fan of digitally designed artwork in general and this one especially doesn't appeal to me.

Sweet album! I like it better than every Insomnium after In The Halls. So far it's my favorite work by this guy, will need time to listen more.

I like this one more than his previous projects but he needs to do something about the vocals. Not saying that he does a bad job, but man, does it get so annoying and tiring after a couple of songs... a bit of variety would be awesome, some clean vocals, male or female, anything... that would make it more interesting.

Enjoying this quite a bit. For some reason all of Tuomas' work appeals to me a lot more than most melodeath stuff.

The bonus track is called "Frey" not "Fray".

Also, 'the true' Wolfheart :
Sounds pretty good. Kinda reminds me of early CoB, but less neoclassical.

I think I read that there was a Charon guy in this band at some point.
According to MA, the drummer.
Edit: Actually both of them, according to MA.

Thanks for the rec man. Outstanding. I've never heard of the guy but I do like a bit of melodic death metal and this fits the bill.

You should check out his other stuff too then, especially Before The Dawn and Black Sun Aeon; Wolfheart is like a near perfect mix of those 2 of his past bands/projects.

I would say it's more Black Sun than Before the Dawn.

In spite of various names used for different bands/projects, Tuomas Saukkonen's discography is all so similar I don't know why he didn't just release everything under one moniker to begin with. This isn't any different from anything else he's done, but at this point I'm bored with his style of melo-death.

I hate to say this but for me, edit the word "his" and put in the word Be'lakor's. Maybe this is why I find this and Fractal Gates so refreshing at the moment.
