Metallica - Re-Releasing 'Some Kind Of Monster' For 10th Anniversary

You might remember that Metallica released the film Some Kind Of Monster years ago featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes as they confronted personal demons and their relationships with each other while recording their album St. Anger. That included a conversation with former guitarist Dave Mustaine (Megadeth). Now the band is re-releasing Some Kind Of Monster on November 24th, 2014 in two-disc Blu-ray and DVD sets that include Metallica: This Monster Lives, a 25-minute follow-up piece, and it will also be available digitally and via Video On Demand.

In the band's own words: "Last week we celebrated the ten year anniversary of LiveMetallica.com and we're back today with another milestone announcement, this time the re-release of our film Some Kind Of Monster on November 24, 2014. The film will be available digitally and via Video On Demand for the very first time and for those of you who still like to have one to hold in your hands, there will be two-disc Blu-Ray and DVD sets at your favorite retail outlets and in the Metallica.com store.

"A lot has happened since 2004 and we'll bring you up to speed by including the feature Metallica: This Monster Lives, a 25-minute follow-up piece filmed at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 during the release of our second film, Metallica Through The Never. It includes interview footage with us along with directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky and looks at the decade since the original release of the film. This feature along with the full film and all the extras from the original 2005 DVD release will be included on the Blu-ray and DVD. This is also that the first time the film will be available on Blu-ray. Metallica: This Monster Lives will also be available along with the original film on the digital releases."

In other Metallica news, on Black Friday Record Store Day (November 28th), the band will release the "First Pass" (studio) version of the new song "Lords Of Summer" on vinyl. The limited edition 12-inch vinyl will include the "First Pass" (studio) version on side A as well as a live version recorded at the Rock In Rome Sonisphere Festival on July 1st, 2014. Side B will feature a laser etching of their "M" logo.

Why? I've heard Metallica fans say that film turned them against the band and even the music.

I remember seeing that film a while back and I was left with the impression that except for Newsted that actually left the band, none of the characters involved were actually sane people. Newsted was the only sane one because he decided to leave Craptallica when shit got unbearable. Even Kirk who is the more rational guy over there looked pathethic. That documentary really changed my way of perceiving this band and I can understand the environment in which an abomination like St. Anger was released. The product couldn't have ended in a right manner under those circumstances. And god... Mustaine... no further comments.

Considering the fact that Metallica is functioning more like a corporation than a band for quite some time already, it is quite logical that they need to constantly try to sell something, to keep the revenues flowing. If there aren't any new products prepared for selling (e.g. fresh material ready for release), they just repack the old ones, put them back in stores and that's that.

Indeed, just like a band such as Iron Maiden and Dream Theater.

I highly doubt they will make much of this bullshit.... Maybe some newer fanboys will buy this though.
