Folk Metal is a fairly new genre (though it was started a while ago we havnt seen such a jump in folk/viking metal bands as we have in recent years) and along with this unique form of music we also see more unique vocalists to fit the music, voices that might otherwise be considered terrible, but like said, they fit the music nicely. Above I put 7 of what I believe to be some of the most well known folk/viking metal bands, and a wide variety of different vocal styles. I am aware Ensiferum and Finntroll both have had a change in vocalists but I put up what I believed to be there vocalist during there prime (to date), so theres the 'Other' option, which is there for all of you who love your underground bands (so please dont bitch about who should or shouldnt be on the poll, just vote other and specify). AND PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR POSTS/REASONS FOR WHO YOU VOTED FOR!

Now for my vote, I voted for Warlord Nygard from Turisas, he has so many different vocal styles, he can go from raspy almost punky sounding singing to black metal-esque singing (most recently shown in the new album) to death growls to clean singing that has a very unique timbre to it making it hard to grow bored of. Not to mention he writes almost all the music including all the orchestrations and neat lyrics.

If your list had JOHAN HEGG i would vote for him, but in this list I voted for Ville Survali, coz i like moonsorrow and him. his voice is specil, so if you listen to Sankarihauta you will undrestand what i say.

i like Turisas' songs the most...though Korpiklaani and Elvenking are great bands too, Battle Metal and Rex Regi Rebelis won it to Matias by me

I vote other because Quorthone was awsoem and Bathory its one of my fav bands no methers what Quorthone stands higer how those other singers and he was gifted whit lyricist talant and musician takant too
Then secend are Va?ek Hudrič from Beltaine ist awsoem Czech folk metal band awsome realy awsome band and lyrics and style how he sings awsome i cant explain listen Beltaine and you will understand

From list I even coud not choose because I like those bands but I never had been fan of Tyr and Elvenking others are ok

I didnt put Johan Hegg because AA are Melodeath with viking lyrical content, I put in singers from bands that actually have a more viking sound to them, not just in the lyrical content.

Whats wrong whit Beltaine and Va?ek Hudrič?
IMO he has great voice and talanted lyricis and his vocals sonds awsoem imO Beltaine shood eb mor epopular how thay are damn I love 'Bohemia Winter"

i have listened two of their tracks on Youtube so far...and well...it is nice voice, but it's nothing to impress me...especially the music isn't any special - it is good, but i can't hear any "strong moments"...

When I hear it I love it its so awsome awsoem band and lyrics I had feelings that ancient spirits are alive and soemtimes I belive in Bohemai and Moravia soemthing ancient lives

I really like Helge Stang's vocals from Equilibrium. I like his varying vocal style from deep grunts to high pitched screeches/growls. With that in mind, he still puts a lot of emotion into his vocals. While he might not be the best folk/viking vocalist, I tend to enjoy his vocals the most for their varying styles he pulls off. Also, even from hearing some of his work from his other projects like Reign Of Decay, it's convincing that he's a talented vocals for even his death metal grunts are quite good.

Why non of you didnt mention Robert Darken from Graveland because ist lil Bathory style metal in leitehr albums and his vocals has powerfull and he ha sproove him self in music too, IMO play all instrumentsvand sing ist not easy

I like Tapio Wilska's vocals the best, because he really sounds like a big, creepy troll . His voice really sounds great. Just listen to "Nattfödd".

I love Jari Mäenpää voice so amazing. It doesn't matter if it is in Ensiferm or Wintersun. It sounds really nice Can't wait for the realase of Wintersun's second album. It will a be masterpiece again.

this is one of my favourite areas of music now as well.. but I never really considered the singers to be anything but doing a good job.. nothing outstanding really.. they just look the part and do the job
my favourite band on that list - Ensiferum - Jari, although talented - I think maybe doesn't appreciate the fans as much as others do..

I don't know - I will vote for Vreth (Finntroll) because he's a nice, funny person - and after filling the shoes of Tapio he has done a good job with Finntroll.. when you look at him you don't expect those sounds to come out. hahaha

Heri Joensen without very much thinking...he's my choice here because I admire the way he puts soul into the lyrics and music of Tyr.....Tyr is one of my favourite bands and their huge merit is Heri's voice...for example the first singer of theirs didn't have such quality in his voice....

I voted for Jari, amazing voice, he fitted perfectly into once glorious Ensiferum music. Now he is doing well with Wintersun, but I just like his voice on Ensiferum and Iron, fantastic

Jari Mäenpää so far, great, harsh and powerful. It's a very atmospheric voice!

I had to go with Ville from Moonsorrow. I think his voice fits his band the best, plus, his band is the most epic.

I changed my mind, I think Grutle from Enslaved has one of the best vocals there are. They are not specifically Folk Metal, but they have a lot of Viking Metal influences.

A part Jari Maenpaa(I really like his voice),Valfar was magnific,a God!
And..yes,for me there is always fenriz for first!

for me it is Jonne Jarvela from Korpiklaani specialy whith his Yoking voice second it will be Jari Maenpaa and Vratyas Vakyas of Falkenbach

For me the best vocalist is Jari from Ensiferum...I like this band very much. Also Korpiklaani frontman Jonne is very good vocalist...
